Chapter Two: A New School

Today was Maria's first day at Royal High school, and she was extremely nervous. She was used to middle school in Mermaid Cove. Mermaid Cove is a small private school in Aquatria. In Mermaid Cove, there are only two classrooms. One is for storage, the other for, obviously, class. She loved that school. It was small, and private. There were not flocks of students or any boys to tease her. There were rarely any bullies, and everyone was friends with each other.

Royal High was definitely going to be different. The school was HUGE, and that is not a dramatization. It was like a mansion, had three floors, and many rooms. And this school was not private.

"How are you feeling about your first day," asked her mother.

Maria repeatedly stabbed at her pancakes and shrugged.

"Fine, I guess, she lied.

She picked around at her pancakes some more, whirling her fork in the syrup. She knew she would be hungry later on, but she felt too anxious to eat anything at the moment.

Her mother looked at her watch, her face suddenly grim.

"Get up, hurry! We are late!"

Maria shoved her plate aside and jumped up from the table, scrambling up the stairs and into her bedroom. She grabbed her bag and shoved her textbooks in.

"Hurry Maria!"

"Give me a minute, mom!"

She brushed her hair and teeth quickly and grabbed her things, racing to the front door.

The swim seemed awfully long, considering that she was late, even though she and her mother were fast swimmers. This made her even more nervous.

Why do I have to be late on the first day? This is not a good first impression!

When they arrived at Royal High, Maria did not even say goodbye to her mother. She swam through the underwater path to the door, and rushed in.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Sorry that this chapter was short as well, but I kind of felt the need to leave you guys off with a cliffhanger or something along those lines, if you even consider this as a cliffhanger. I also feel the need to tell you that I may be getting better with keeping track on how often I write. I may possibly start writing... maybe twice a week. Or if I just feel like writing any other time, I'll definitely do that.
