AU where Snape doesnt get the promotion... oops, also Voldemort died and the battle never happens yay!
"Today you will be brewing Cercatore d'Amore, one of the strongest potions to ever be created. Can anyone tell me why it was deemed as such?" Snape prompted the class unenthusiastically, knowing who the only one to answer would be. Hermione's hand shot up from behind Harry's head. She sat behind him with Ron while he was forced to sit up front and work with Malfoy. Even though Hermione volunteered an explanation, Snape dismissed her and gave a dull explanation himself. After droning on about the effects of the potion that literally pulls you to your soulmate as if you were magnets, Snape then finished with a firm "You will find the instructions on page 394 of your advanced potions textbooks", as if to say that he couldn't care less about what they did after that point.
Draco gave Harry a look of disgust, although he didn't feel disgust toward him. " Don't even think about touching my potion Potter, your brewing is absolutely atrocious". Harry raised both hands in the air, saying that he wouldn't touch a thing. The ingredients appeared on their desk and the class began to brew their potion, all except Harry. Snape took notice and warned him that if he didn't do something he would fail him. Draco gave him a wary look before handing Harry a vile of iridescent liquid. "Is this... Unicorn blood?!" Harry asked, squinting his eyes, horrified. "Oh don't be ridiculous Potter, it's powdered fairy wings diluted, if you read the instructions you would have known," Draco said with mild annoyance. "Oh", Harry said, blushing slightly from embarrassment.
'He's so cute when he blushes' Draco thought before internally scolding himself. He couldn't help it, he'd have thoughts like these creep in his head since second year, like 'how nice Harry's hair looked when he flew, or how beautifully green his eyes are...STOP IT!' Draco shouted to himself before returning to the outside world where Harry awaited further instruction. He hastily told Harry to add the liquid to the potion, and then, they waited.
While they waited, Harry, stirring counterclockwise, Draco's mind wandered off again into the boyish crush realm of his brain before ripping himself out of it again. It wasn't even the fact that Harry was a boy that made him despise these thoughts, his parents would be completely accepting about the fact that he was gay... whenever he would finally tell them. No, it was the fact that Harry was Harry. Perfect, green-eyed quidditch player Harry. Harry who had every boy and girl in seventh year crushing on him including Draco, he'd never have a chance with him. 'But if so many people are after him, why is he still single?' Draco thought to himself, 'maybe he fancies someone who hasn't reciprocated his feelings'. As Draco got his hopes up about Harry being single, Harry's arm grew tired and he stopped mixing.
Draco, finally snapping out of the haze he was in, yelled at Harry for stopping when really if he had continued he would have overmixed it. Draco, of course, was too distracted to notice.
As they waited for everyone to finish their potion, Harry turned to face his friends. Hermione was asking quizzical questions as always.
"Has anyone ever noticed how all our potions instructions are written on the board and we've never used our textbooks until now? He's written the instructions on the board as well and they don't match the book."
Harry and Ron shrugged indifferently to the topic she was discussing.
He turned back to the front of the class as Snape began speaking. He locked all the doors and windows, trapping everyone in the room. Murmurs came from worried students before Snape silenced the class. He said that to pass the day's class, they would be sampling their potion. If it worked, however mild it may be, they would pass with hundreds. The class exchanged worried looks before drinking their brew. Harry and Draco looked at each other before downing a flask of their own, Harry's emerald eyes lingering on the blond's mercury ones, the eyes he had fallen in love with six years ago.As the potion started taking effect, students bolted from their seats and collided with the door or wall that was blocking them from reaching their soulmate. The golden trio and Draco were the only ones who didn't feel the pull. Snape looked at them worriedly, afraid of what this might mean for Draco. 'Of course, Poter could have spoiled it', he thought. That's what Draco thought as he shouted at Harry for ruining his what-would-have-been perfect brew. Harry apologized, tears stinging the back of his eyes as Snape walked over.
"Draco, scolding won't be necessary. Perhaps you four should stand, maybe then it will take effect".
They nodded, stood, and were immediately stuck together, Ron with Hermione, and Draco with Harry. Hermione and Ron were no surprise, they had already been dating, if it had been anyone else they would have been devastated. Harry and Draco's faces, however, looked like tomatoes.
Ron immediately said that there was a mistake and that Harry wasn't gay, nor could he ever love Malfoy. Hermione knew both of those statements were very inaccurate. Being his best friend, Hermione was the first to know that he was, in fact, bisexual and liked Draco very much, Ginny was the second. She glared at Ron and then turned to Snape who was paler than usual, if that was at all possible, as he looked at Draco.
Harry and Draco looked at each other and saw their beet-red faces then blushed even deeper. "Now your face matches your robes Potter," Draco said cheekily.
"I would say the same to you Malfoy, but you don't seem to be appalled by our predicament" Harry replied, matching Draco's cheeky tone.
"Why would I be appalled by our predicament? I've been waiting for this since second year" Draco said with the smirk that made Harry melt.
"Ditto," Harry said before Draco grabbed Harry and kissed him softly, his rough lips on Draco's impossibly soft ones. It was chaste but to them, it felt like time stood still. When they pulled away, Draco rested his forehead on Harry's as the class erupted with applause, Ron and Snape watching in mild horror. The boys just smiled and lived in the blissful moment. After the potion wore off, the class was dismissed.
Everyone passed the class whether they deserved it or not.
~~~~Time skip to dinner~~~
Harry and Draco had been inseparable the entire day, so as they walked into the great hall with intertwined hands, few were surprised. They sat at the table that had been reserved for seventh years, and up at the teacher's table, Snape handed ten galleons each to Dumbledore and McGonagall as a seven-year-old bet was fulfilled.
