“Are you sure?” Jimmy asks you, his eyes swimming with uncertainty. “I mean, it could have just been a joke,”
“It wasn’t,” You say, your voice cracking slightly. “I’m really sorry,”
You look down at your lap and wish that you had something more to say. You knew that Jimmy would react like this, that he wouldn’t believe you, but he had to know. He had to know that you’d walked in on his fiancée half-naked, kissing another man.
“No!” Jimmy yells, turning to face you. His face is a mask of anger and tears streak his face. “You’re lying! She would never do that to me! You’re trying to break us up – you’ve never liked her!”
Something in you snaps. “Fine!” You scream. “Be blind! I’ve never lied to you, never! But if you can’t look past whatever the hell you see in her to see that she’s a lying cheat, then I hope you’re happy living in a fantasy! Open your eyes, Jimmy!”
You snatch up your things and storm from his apartment, fighting back the hot tears that threaten to spill from your eyes.
You walk angrily across town, muttering to yourself about how much of an idiot Jimmy is. He’d moved out of the apartment that he shared with you so that he could be with his fiancée. What a dumbass move that was. Before you know it, you’re knocking on Zacky’s door and he lets you in.
“What’s up?” He asks as you walk into the apartment.
“What would you do if you found out something terrible that could really hurt the ones you care about, but keeping it from them could do them more harm in the long run?” You sniffle, sitting down on the couch and lifting your glasses to rub away any stray eyeliner. “Would you tell them?”
“Hell yeah,” Zacky says without even thinking. “I mean, it’s kinda like ripping off a band-aid. It stings for a bit, but the pain goes away a hell of a lot quicker. What did you find out?”
“Jimmy’s fiancée,” You whisper. “She’s been cheating on him,”
“Shit,” Zacky says in a low voice.
“You know what?” You say, getting up from the couch. “I think I’m just going to go home. Sorry about this,”
“Hold up,” Zacky says as you reach the door. He throws a bottle in your direction and you catch it. You smile at him. “That beer is colder than that bitch’s heart. Enjoy it,”
“Thanks, Zacky,” You say.
For the next couple of days, you sit in your apartment, wondering what the hell you’ve done. You might have just ruined your friendship with Jimmy. You’d been his best friend since eighth grade, along with the other members of Avenged Sevenfold, but out of all them, you were closest to Jimmy. You stay on the sofa, wrapped in the fluffy blanket that Jimmy had bought you as a housewarming gift when you first moved into your apartment. Zacky calls you every evening to make sure you’re okay, while Synster and Matt send you cute pictures of puppies and kittens in an attempt to cheer you up.
But in truth, the only thing that has any chance of cheering you up is Jimmy. You’d yelled at him for being blind, but in truth, you were equally blind. And it had taken you years to realise just how much Jimmy meant to you. He was more than a friend to you. You loved him.
“I love him,” You whisper. “I’m in love with Jimmy,”
“You love me?” A soft voice asks. You hadn’t even heard the door opening.
You get off the sofa to see Jimmy standing in the doorway, the spare key that you’d given him when you first moved in dangling limply from his hand.
“Get out,” You say, your voice low and full of anger. “You have no right to be here,”
“Sheena, please,” He pleads, and he sounds like he’s about to cry once more. “Just hear me out,”
You fold your arms over your chest, wishing you weren’t so small or skinny in comparison to him. “Fine,”
“I spoke to her,” He says, his hands trembling. “She laughed in my face. She said that she only did it because she knew that I didn’t love her, not properly, and that I would never love her. Then she left. And then I realised why I can’t love her fully,” He reaches out and tucks a strand of your purple hair behind your ear, his thumb brushing against your cheekbone. “Because I’m in love with you,”
“You… Love me?” You feel breathless, and your heart is pounding in your chest.
A hand slides around your waist and pulls you close to him. Your hips bump into his and your breath catches in your throat. The hand that is on your cheek cups your face tenderly, his thumb still stroking your cheekbone, leaving a trail of heat in its wake.
“Yes, Sheena,” He whispers. “I’m in love with you,”
Then his lips crash against yours. It starts off tender and sweet, with him gently rubbing a circle into your lower back while your lips move together, his lips pausing occasionally to suck on your labret piercing, but before you know it, his shirt is on the floor and your legs are wrapped around his waist and your back against the wall while Jimmy trails kisses down your neck.
When it’s all over, and you’re lying in bed, panting slightly, the sheets wrapped around you, you feel nothing but relief. Jimmy pulls you close to him and kisses the top of your head.
“How long?” He asks. “How long have you loved me?”
You sigh slightly. “Since eighth grade,”
“What?” He exclaims incredulously. “All this time, and you never said anything?”
You bite your bottom lip. “I never realised. I said that you were blind, and that you needed to open your eyes, but in truth, so did I,”
“Well,” Jimmy murmurs. “We have a lot of time to make up for,”
