February 2nd, 7:17 AM

A single, almost unnoticeably thin beam of light shone through the crack in the curtains, making a beeline directly for Weiss' eyelids. Her eyes darted back and forth beneath her pale eyelids before shooting open, her expression noticeably furious. Reaching from her bed, she attempted to pull the further curtain towards her, but she could not reach anywhere near it.

"Curse you genetics." She muttered under her breath as she rolled off of her bed. Just as she was about to violently shut the curtains, she noticed something amiss about the other bed in the room. The covers were swept away and Ruby, her girlfriend, was nowhere to be found. Ruby usually slept well into 10:00 AM every day, which was extra confusing for a sleep-deprived Weiss. With an obnoxiously long yawn, Weiss exited her room and into the un-swept kitchen of their apartment. A single, pink post-it lay on the counter, making it almost impossible to miss. Weiss swept it up with one hand as she opened the fridge.

"Heya Weiss! Sorry I'm not here for breakfast, Yang and I are gonna meet at UHOP for brunch! I made you something quick for breakfast though, it should be in the fridge!"

Weiss' eyes darted between the note and the amorphous blob of what looked to be pancake batter, sickeningly uncooked. She sighed and discarded of the failed dish.

"The reason I left so early is I wanted to get some errands done before I met with Yang. I needed to run to the bank and do some quick shopping, though I might not get it done before brunch. Don't know when I'll get home, just call me if you're worried about me! J"

Weiss chuckled. Despite how calm and collected she tried to be around Ruby, her constant antics made it hard not to worry about her. Her mind wandered back to the New Year's party where she and Yang had a drinking contest, which she lost by a landslide. Weiss had had to accompany her to the bathroom, where she ended up sleeping like a rock on the rug. She silently thanked the powers that be that there was no vomit to clean up.

"Still, leaving so early for brunch?" Thought Weiss as she scavenged through the half-eaten leftovers for the carton of milk, "And why does she need to go to the bank?" Weiss froze, "The bank doesn't even open till noon on Sundays! What is that dolt doing?"

She pulled out her phone and tapped the button for Ruby's speed-dial, the tapping of her foot perfectly in rhythm with the dial tone. Ruby picked up after three tones, her voice as cheery as ever.

"Hey Weiss, what's up? Enjoy the pancakes I left you?"

"There was supposed to be more than one?" Weiss shook her head, "Ruby, where are you?"

"I'm at the bank, did you not see my note?" Ruby sounded concerned, a given since Weiss usually noticed anything and everything.

"I did, but the bank doesn't open until noon! It's a Sunday, remember?" Weiss sighed, "And brunch is most definitely not a 7 to 8 AM thing. Remember the argument I won last week? Brunch is most definitely from 10:00 to 10:45 at the latest!"

"I know, I have a lot of errands! Anyways, I meant the... river bank! Right, the river bank! I thought some fresh air would be nice before a day spent cooped up inside my car, you know?"

"Whatever. Just stay safe you dolt." Weiss chuckled, "You know I worry about you."

"I know, I know. Kisses!" Ruby chirped out her usual ending for their phone calls, and Weiss responded just as ever - hanging up the phone without another word. She inspected the trash can one last time, sighing as she realized that there was supposed to be more than one pancake.
