"Ruby, will you tell me why we're just looking at the stars? I'm tired!" Weiss complained. Ruby was right, her college finals had taken nearly all of the fight out of her, and now the two of them were sitting on a river bank, watching the stars dance between the sparse clouds.
"Well, it's our Valentine's Day date of course!" Ruby stood up and stretched her arms. "Come on, stand up! I have something to show you!"
Weiss groaned and followed Ruby's lead, staying exactly where Ruby told her to, facing an empty portion of the night sky. "Ruby, what's the meaning of this? Didn't we agree we would just do flowers and a nice dinner?"
"Flowers are too boring!" Ruby pouted, "Now watch this!" Ruby pulled a small device out of her back pocket, which held a bright, red button encased in plastic. Ruby jabbed the button and pointed behind her, directly where a loud noise played from.
It looked at first like stars had shot into the sky, but once they exploded, Weiss knew instantly that they were fireworks - and that they were for her. The sky filled with red and pink hearts, small streamers and ball fireworks played about the edges. Weiss' eyes shot open as a message appeared in the sky.
"WEISS, WILL YOU MARRY ME?"
Weiss' eyes began to tear up, soon becoming a torrent of joy. When she looked back to Ruby, she was on one knee and holding out a small, candy ring. The look on her face was completely serious as she offered the cherry-flavored gift to Weiss, who took it happily, but with much confusion.
"Ruby, I will! But... why is this a candy ring? Not that I'm complaining..."
"I spent all of my money on the fireworks." Ruby giggled, rubbing the back of her head.
Fireworks flew into the sky one last time as Weiss pulled Ruby into a loving kiss, tasting the cherry from Ruby's lipstick. Ruby really had thought of everything, she thought as the two embraced under the colorful sky.
"You know, this really beats flowers and dinner."
