The sky was a beautiful hue of orange and blue as the sun was about to set. Little Hyurae gazed up at the sky as she sighed in delight. She felt happy and excited as she skipped her way back to their small cottage in the middle of the woods, she had always wondered why her parents would want to live in the middle of nowhere, but whenever she would ask, they would just say that its because they were hunters and they needed to live in the woods in order to hunt.
Today was her ninth birthday, so she had gone to the village to play with her friends who lived there, but she had to go back home before the sunset. She was really excited to go back home and eat the delicious food her mother would cook for her on birthdays. On her birthdays her mother and father would always prepare many dishes of her favorite food her. Her mouth started watering just at the thought of all the good dishes.
Her family weren't that wealthy but they weren't that poor either. As Hyurae was getting closer to the cottage she could see some smoke covering the blue sky, the sun had already set by now. She ran faster to her house as she got worried about what had occurred. Once she got to her said destination, she gasped and clasped her small hands over her mouth as her eyesight got blurry. "no..." she whispered as her tears now streamed down her chubby cheeks. "Mom... Dad..." she started trembling as she hiccupped. She quickly ran inside the burnt house. There were still flames here and there but it was nothing compared to how it was a few minutes ago.
Hyurae coughed, sobbed, and hiccupped helplessly as she walked into the living room to see her mother and father both laying there with wounds, cuts, bruises, and burns everywhere. She quickly ran up to her mother and tried shaking her awake. "MOM PLEASE DONT GO TO SLEEP!!!" she shouted and shook the dead body rapidly. She wiped her tears stained cheeks with her, now, dusty hands, causing her cheeks to become a mixture of grey and pink. Her eyes were red and puffy, but she still cried and shook her mother. She scooted closer to her father and repeated the same actions. After a few hours of crying, her frail body got tired, and soon she drifted of to dreamland. The fire had died down along with her cries and pleas. The place she had once called home was now a mess.
Once little Hyurae woke up, she rubbed her swollen, red, puffy eyes with the back of her small chubby hands. After her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the room, she sat up and she observed her surroundings. She was not in her own room... She was in another room. She sat on a comfy bed, that had soft blue sheets, and the pillow she had slept on was white. The bed was located in the left corner of the room. The walls were white and the floor was wooden. There stood a small wooden nightstand next to the bed. On the right side of the room there was a wooden study desk that had papers scattered on top of it and there was a bottle of ink and a pen. The center wall had a small window that was closed shut. She stood up from the bed, but she suddenly came to the realization that she wasn't in her own clothes. She was wearing a long white night gown that was too big for her small body, and her skin was clean and clear of any dirt. She tried to raise the long sleeves because they were too long for her arms.
Hyurae suddenly remembered the events that had occurred the day before, her heart wrenched at the thought of what had happened to her parents. A tear escaped her eyes again as she broke out into sobs. She put her small palms on her face as she cried into her hands. Her small frame crouched down and she sat down on the ground as she leaned the side of the bed and brought her knees to her chest as she cried again.
Suddenly, a man who seemed to be in his mid-thirties, pushed the door open and came in with a worried expression. Hyurae looked up with teary eyes, the man was familiar but she couldn't put a finger on it. The man looked around the room until he spotted the small Hyurae. His gaze immediately softened as he saw the crying girl. He walked towards the girl and crouched down to her level. "come on... get up.." he said softly as he extended his arm for the girl to take. Hyurae hesitated a bit, but took it anyway. The man pulled her up into a standing position as he did the same.
