7 years later

It was absolutely dark in the village, the only source of light being the moon, that was half covered by the dark clouds that were roaming around the midnight sky. All the villagers were probably asleep... There can be a few exceptions. From a clueless person's perspective, the aura could be called peaceful, but there was danger that lurked in the darkness and silence of the night.

Hyurae's  POV

Loud thuds of footsteps could be heard through the walls of the alleyways. I ran through several narrow alleys with a light yet fast and steady pace.  I quickly turned to the alley on the right and pressed my back against the cold wall.

The hurried footsteps of the man that was chasing me could still be heard and they were feets away from my hidden figure. I could hear him getting closer by the second. I couldn't suppress the smirk that tugged at the corner of my lips.

I clutched my dagger in my left palm as I was ready to strike at any minute. I could hear him just a few feet away. When the target was about to run forward, unaware of my figure that was pressed against the wall,  and continue his 'chase' after me, I pushed him against a nearby wall and slit his throat with the dagger in my palm. Mission accomplished.

I took out a napkin and wiped the blood on my dagger. I just took care of a guy who was supposed to pay his debt to boss, but he was late. That's why boss ordered me to take care of him, but unfortunately, he had a little guest as well.

No matter how embarrassing it was for me to get caught in doing one of my missions, something had to be done about that little witness.

And... unfortunately again, the guy had a sword and knew how to use it. Well, I have a sword with me as well, but where is the fun when I put a fight instead of a chase. So I just made him chase me for a while, until he was taken care of as well.

You guys might be wondering what the hell happened all these years... well, lets do a quick rewind. After the tragedy that took place 7 years ago, I got taken in by Kris and his buddies. Lets just say... my stay with them was quite unpleasant...

Well, I got used to it after a long while. They trained me to become a killer. I did rebel and I got stubborn at times but that just led to days with no food and a good beating from the trainer. I was 13 when I was first assigned to kill someone.

The image of the young lady tied down to a chair as she cried and begged for Kris to let her go, was still fresh in my mind. But all Kris did was hand a dagger to me and point his thumb to the lady. "finish her..." He had demanded as he wore his usual stern expression.

I had stepped forward as I kept glancing at the weapon in my hand and the female who was crying and thrashing around in her chair. "Hyurae... I don't want to repeat myself..." He warned as he threw dagger like glares my way when I turned around to gaze at his tall figure.

I had to just nod my head and take a deep shaky breath as I closed my eyes to calm down my thumping heart. My eyes were starting to glaze with tears as I stepped further.

I raised my right hand that held the dagger, preparing to strike. It was as if time had stopped when I struck the dagger and slit the woman's throat. Her screams and cries had come to a stop... The next seconds felt like hours, I just stared at the corpse before me with eyes. My eyes were glossy.

after a few minutes, I rushed out of the room and barged into the smelly old bathroom. I knelt down and threw up everything I had eaten up this morning in the toilet.

I cried a lot for a few days and it was as if her ghost was haunting me. Before that I was taught how to fight and steal and be stealthy and agile in missions... I would've never thought they'd make me kill.
