"F*** my life!" Catherine screamed as she got out the door furiously in the dead of the night."Don't you dare talk to me like that! You hear me?!" yelled her mother, Marian Willows. She ignored her mother and walked out. She felt a cold breeze on her cheeks. It was too cold to go out that night. But she headed right out anyway.
Her Converse crushed the leaves and broke the silence of the lonely street as she trod her way through the night with thoughts brimming inside her head. All the stores and cafès, with their fancy neon lights, dimly lit up the road ahead.
She could catch a whiff of something in the air, something so faint yet recognisable to her. It reminded her of a night from few months back. A night that seemed to have changed her fate and life forever.
Three blocks away was the Ontario Park.
She saw the fall leaves still hanging on to their trees and realised, for the first time in all her night visits to the lake, the water in the lake looked like a mirror that she could fall into and never come back from. "You could consume me", she whispered under her breath looking ahead at the vast silver waters.
She stood there thinking about how crazy her days had been getting the past few months; cracked her neck, relaxing her tense muscles.
The water seemed to be calling her in. She started walking towards the placid lake. Her green eyes glimmered with a thoughtless hope of just not existing for that moment. Wind swayed her hair as she paced forward; she stopped moving after a few short steps on the wet gravel. Right then, she heard soft rustling a few steps behind.
"Waiting for someone?" said a voice.
