The Beginning

It was the night on the 2nd of February when I was in the newest part of the library and was two weeks into working as a new employee there.

"Hey!" said he while I was orderly placing books into their respective stacks.

"Hello." I replied with a smile.

Jake was every girl's dream guy in high school. Rumours had it that he was a player and I had enough to deal with at home already so I quietly kept my distance with guys like him although I still had a teeny tiny bit of a crush on him when I am in the best of my moods. I kept getting mixed signals from him since the spring break and I do not doubt if it had anything to do with the break itself.

One of Jake's friends nudged over a book out of the shelf as the gang was moving out the reading area noisily. "Watch the book, man." Jake said to him as it fell to the floor anyway. He patted away his douchebag of a friend and the rest out the door telling them he had to pick up some books for the school.

His pack of friends acted like they rule the hallways and almost all aspects of school  with their influence and since his family is friends with the Principal, he made sure his friends would get out of trouble whenever they had enough time to create problems. Typical high school jocks.

"So what's it like working in the brand new library?" he askd while placing the book back.

"What's it like to be a first timer to the library?" his friends joked at him as they move out.

I smiled at the lame joke and answer "Its good...so far so good."

"Not bad for a quiet, shy girl to be working at nights here."

"Okay, I only seem shy and I like it here....and this place is pretty much the second  safest place I know that exists, I mean any place would the second safest place  that could exist if it had books and nothing but books, books are the coolest things. Its  great to be surrounded by the greatest  coolest things."

"Agreed...but what is the first safest place? "

"My mind." I answered after an awkwardly short pause after staring at the last book I am holding and dust my hands signalling my job being done for the day.

"Cooooool, so can I know what secrets you are hiding inside that pretty mind of yours?"

He smiled as he reached out and tucked my hair behind my ears. I nearly flinched at the sudden approach of his hand. My heart almost skipped  beat.

"Uh....So what books are you looking for?" I asked seemingly ignorant of what clearly just happened.

He drew  his eyebrows slightly closer together and squinted as if to seem like he knew what I was  doing, as if trying to read my mind. And all I was doing was  trying to keep my heavy heart thumping to myself.

" You know....just some Shakespeare for the English class."

I showed him where the books were and he returned back in a jiffy with a phone call.

"I gotta run. Can I come back here tomorrow and get these? Will you be here tomorrow? Same time? " he asks.

"Yep, sure . I'll be the one surrounded by books"  I replied as he walked into the cold night.

I wondered what was  happening but then again it was late already and so I had to close my entry at the staff reporting and head home.

You see.... that was the first night we had had a decent conversation in years and that was just the beginning of what was to follow,

The next night, right near the end of my shift he showed up.

"Look who is back." I said while opening the drawer to take out the books.

I looked up and saw his tired blue eyes stare into mine .I stared into his eyes as his breathing sounded deeper. I did not exactly know why my gaze shifted to his lips but I realized I wanted to kiss him.

At that moment he leaned in and kissed my lips as if having read my mind.

As if having gotten inside my mind.
