I could almost taste the pity from everyone's faces as I trudged through the corridors.
"That's the dead boy's girl."
"I didn't know they were going out, what the hell?"
"Pity."
Pity.
They were whispering, but they may as well have been shouting right into my ears. Their words echoed throughout my head all the way until the start of year assembly.
"Senior year. A year for you lot in front of me to buckle down and focus on getting into the best colleges," Mr Stokes, our principal droned on.

"Another year. Another opportunity to succeed," Mr Stokes drones.
"I think I'm gonna die of boredom," I said nudging Isaac in the ribs.
He laughs softly and then turns away when Mr Stokes stops and glares at us for talking.
"As I was saying..."
flashback over
After a lengthy and boring assembly, I made my way to English.
Miss Reynold was assigning everyone seats and I was assigned to a seat at the back, on my own.
As if I wasn't solitary enough mentally.
"A comma is a form of punctuation, used to separate phras-"
A tall boy with dark coloured hair wearing a monochrome bomber jacket walked into the classroom.
I'm not gonna lie, he was hot.
"Sorry I'm late, Miss," he said.
"Normally, I would give you a detention...but I'm feeling kind today. Go sit next to Miss Spencer." Miss Reynold said to him, pointing at me.
He put his backpack down and took a deep breath.
"Hey."
"Hi," I said, smiling slightly.
"Erm, I'm Toby."
"Ashley."
"Nice to meet you, Ashley."
"Same here."
"Quite enough chat at the back," Miss Reynold barked.
I rolled my eyes and Toby sighed.
I was busy taking notes when I felt Toby tapping my shoulder.
"Hey, can I have a favour?" he asked.
"Sure, what's up?"
"I don't really know many people here but could you introduce to her? Over there?"
I rolled my eyes when I saw who he was pointing to.
Lola. Lola Morgan. Face like a Barbie doll. Boobs bigger than her ego. I don't think I need to elaborate.
"Sure. Sure. To-totally."
"Cool."
He's clearly just another jock that'll end up dating one of the it girls that have plastic surgery done more than I've brush my teeth. The thing is...why I am so bothered by it?
