The rest of the day I kept a low profile, which gave me no other chances to get detention from evil ass teachers.
Turns out I had more classes with Knight-In-Shining-Armour Toby than I thought. French, which was one of the most tedious classes ever, was actually fun with him around. We laughed and joked about pointless things, throughout the whole lesson.
"Ash, Ash.," he asked: "if your leg got cut off, would it hurt?"
I rolled my eyes. I'd seen that vine countless times, but decided to play along.
"Of course, your leg got cut off, fool." I grinned.
Toby smiled knowingly:
"But where would you feel the pain?" he asked.
"In your le-"
"Exactly, you wouldn't feel no pain because..."
I felt a pang in my stomach as I thought of the times I used to do this with Isaac. All the time.
"..your leg is gone." I said half-heartedly.
Toby scrutinised me, as I tried to smile but looked even more down.
"Ashley..." he started.
"No, it's okay, leave it," I said, cutting him off.
He slumped back into his chair.
"Ashley et Toby! Faites attention, s'il vous plaît, ou la détention pour vous deux." Miss Sellier barked from the front of the class.
"What the hell did she say?" I asked Toby.
"She said," he started groggily, " we need to pay attention, or we'll get even more freaking detention."
