The next morning I got ready for the sentencing. After I ate breakfast, I went down to see the judge. I was going to give them the letter. As I made it into the courtroom, the judge immediately stood up to greet me. As sad as I was, I forced myself to smile.
"To what do I owe the honor, princess?"
"I just wanted to give you another piece of evidence for the Jeffery Davenport trial, I know the verdict will be read in one hour, but I needed to give this to you. I received it last night. Thank you for all you have done. I am afraid I must get back to my work, I will see you soon."
I handed him the paper and left. I was planning on splendid the time before the trial in my room. My dad intercepted that. He took me by the arm and lead me into a private room. Before I could even ask what he was doing, he spoke.
"Jeff may be sentenced to death. I know you don't want that to happen, but it's for the best. We can't have a killer roaming around, especially since he is aiming to murder you. We just can't do it. I'm sure they will find him guilty, so be prepared. I have to go get ready. Your mother will be down shortly."
He kissed me on the cheek and left, his blond hair swaying with him. I was extremely worried that I would have to see Jeff die. Our capital punishments were brutal. My family and I never get to choose the punishments unless it is a personal case. This is not considered to be a personal case, so they could do anything to Jeff. I already told the judge I would prefer that he is not executed, but knowing my father, he probably changed that. Jake once again did not want to go to the case, and I respected that. Instead he and Alexandria would be watching a movie together. Apparently they got along pretty well, which was good. Oddly enough, is wasn't jealous, and I don't know why. When it was time I walked down to the courtroom. I took my seat, and waited for the trial to start. Jeff was staring at me with a mix of anger and sadness. I stared at him back for a while, until my mother and father came in holding hands. They were cute together. I loved there love story and how romantic it was. My mother and father were a perfect match. My most prized possession was a picture of them the day they got engaged. My mom had red hair and my dad had a platinum blond color. They now both did look a little older now but they both were gorgeous. I remember when I was younger my mother was almost taken by rebels. My father stepped in front of her, like a shield. He didn't care if he died. His life depended on my moms safety. Obviously they were both saved, but it just gives me an example of the kind of love I want. I kept thinking about my parents until one of the jury members spoke.
"The jury has decided on Jeffery's fate. We the jury find Jeffery Davenport guilty of treason. We the jury find Jeffery Davenport guilty of the murders of five people. Jeffery is sentenced to death by hanging."
I gasped in shock. He was going to be hanged, and I was the reason why. I held back the tears until the end. I couldn't bare to look at Jeff. When I got back to my room I looked at a picture of Jeff and I the night he proposed. The tears gushed out. How would I be able to make it through seeing the man I used to love being hanged. I don't know how I will make it through.
Intense chapter, huh?!?! Thanks so much for reading!
