RRRING! RRRING!

A sleepy Summer stumbled her way down the carpeted stairs of her home to grab the phone that was ringing. She had been laying in bed, dozing, thinking and dreaming about the day before, about the quarry and her friends.

Friends. She hadn't had any since February. Now, she had six. The feeling of happiness that had bloomed in her stomach made her beam with joy. Her sleepy mind flicked to Eddie, the nervous sunshine boy who made her heart flutter and her walls come down.

And that's when the phone rang.

And so Summer made her way into the kitchen, rubbing sleep from her eyes, and answered the telephone.

"Mmhello?"

"S-Summer?" Bill's stutter rang in clear over the end of the line. "D-Did you j-just w-w-wake up?"

A faint voice on the other line said "Give me that!" and then there was a lot of white noise that was loud enough in her ear to fully wake her up, and someone whispered 'hey, hot stuff' into the receiver (she could guess who), and then there was a scuffling sound, and finally Eddie's voice spoke. "Hey Summer," he said nervously, and she gave a little grin.

"Hey, Buttercup," she said teasingly. "I was just dreaming about you." It was flirtatious, and she half smiled, half smacked herself for the comment.

"Y-you w-were?" Eddie did an unintentional imitation of Bill. Summer shook her head with a smile.

"Yeah, stuttercup," She reassured him, before leaning back, stifling a little yawn that was dragging out the last of her sleepiness. "So what's hanging?"

"Uh," Summer heard Eddie's voice, quieter, farther away, asking Bill what was happening, and then someone (who had to be Richie) say "He can't even fucking think around her! Eds is whipped!" and Eddie hiss "shut up!"

Finally, after more whispering, Eddie returned. "Bev asked us to meet her at her apartment. Meet us outside of Ben's, like now."

"Ace," Summer replied. "See you there."

"Bye," Eddie said breathlessly.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow," Summer joked, and hung up the phone, unaware that on the other end, Richie had slung his arm around Eddie and proclaimed "That was fucking flirting, Eds! She was flirting!"

Opening a cabinet, Summer put a slice of bread in the toaster, then bolted upstairs (as quietly as possible) and lightning changed into shorts and a blue blouse. Grabbing a hairbrush, she ran back downstairs and pulled on her old Converse.

As soon as her toast popped, she spread butter on each side and then shoved it in her mouth, grabbing her board from behind a curtain and running out the door. Her mother wouldn't care where she went anyway.
