Toffee POV

The two weeks were finally up; meaning that I would have to work at the hospital again. Meaning that I would have to face River.  "Dad, is it alright that I don't go to school? Please? I would still work at the hospital." Yes, I called Mr. Rose my father now. Ever since my arrival, he was planning on adopting me. "Toffee, there's no need to be afraid of going back to school. If anything happens, call me. Or let Rasticore help you. I called the school so the two of you would have the same classes. They heard about your issue, so they'll be light on you. I hope you'll have a great day at school." He hugged me tightly. Rasticore was outside, waiting next to his car. When he saw me, he smiled. "Ready to go?" I nodded and went in. It was only matter of minutes until we reached school. He didn't say anything on the way there. He was silent the whole way. It wasn't the awkward silence. It was the one that rather that soothed me. Once we were at the front he stopped the car. Instead of getting out he stared at me. "Will you be okay?" I nodded and gave him a smile before unbuckling my seatbelt. I was about to get out until he stopped me. He gave me a long lingering kiss before letting me leave. We both walked to the front doors.

Everyone was staring at me. It felt unfitting. There were whispers and pointing fingers. "Have you heard? He's an orphan..." "What are you talking about? He's was adopted by the Rosewells..." "Poor guy, and to think he was just an ordinary student..." Most people smiled and said hello or waved. It was uncomfortable. I remember being lonely, invisible, unknown. Now, everyone was talking about me. I froze when I saw River. He was smiling at me warmly. I clenched my fists tightly. He looks like nothing happened. "Morning Toffee! Didn't expect you to be here!" He hugged me tightly, not letting go of me. I heard Rasticore growl when River grabbed my butt and squeezed it, causing me to jump. He let go, smiling wider than before. "I hope you're better now, the whole school was worried." I growled, "Of course. I wonder why. If you'll excuse me, I need to go to class." I walked past him, Rasticore behind me and glaring at River. Once we were way from hi view he glared at me. "He grabbed your ass." "I know, it scares me now." I wrapped myself in my arms again. "What if he wants to continue doing it? What if he likes me? I can't do that? What if he tries to hurt you or dad or-" "Toffee, calm down. None of that is happening. I'm going to quit football, so I will go everywhere with you." I turned and looked at him. "You can't do that! weren't you planning on getting a scholarship?! I'm not letting you quit just because of me." "Then what am I suppose to do? Watch you sit in fear under River's shadow?  I think not. I'm quitting." "No, you're not. I can learn to fight. I can learn to defend myself!" "You can't! You never learned. If you were smart enough you would've tried to call the police, try to keep River away from you. Try, not act like your father!" I stopped. Did he know? 'No, you idiot he means to give up and be a coward like your dad.' Oh. Realizing what he just said he tried to apologize. "Toffee! I didn't mean to-" "It's okay Rasticore. I've heard enough. Let's get to class."

Rasticore POV

He didn't talk to me for the whole day. He looked like he was processing something in his mind. His expression didn't change though. He looked the same. Emotionless and heartless expression. During lunch when we were at the jock table, he excused himself and left. To where, I had no idea, but it got me worried. Did he accept the invitation River gave him? Is River raping him again? I couldn't stay in my seat without trembling with anger. I did see him again in math though. Sitting there peacefully with that expression on his face. He was later excused and told me he was going to pick me up once I was done with football practice. At least he finally talked to me.

"You can't be kicked out of football." "What?! But, we can-" "A family member requested for me to make sure that you get the the scholarship no matter the issue. You stay means you stay." I walked off and got my gear on, ready for practice. Who told him? And why? Telling from River, he' s the same as usual, always flirting with moon, or laughing with his friends....Toffee didn't talk to me the whole day and left during lunch....shit. He was the one who confronted coach. God dammit! Why didn't I think of it earlier! I sighed and got into my usual stance, ready for our first warm-up....
