Kendra's POV
"I can't believe we're back already" Blaise signed not exactly happy to be seeing the Hogwarts Express train right in front of his eyes. "Oh hush you, Hogwarts isn't at all that bad" I told. "Well I'm gonna go find a compartment, see you" He bid me goodbye as he left me on the platform entering the train himself.
I looked around at the scenery around me, students giving their goodbyes to their loved ones, some tearing up and others laughing. I was used to this sight since this is my fourth year at Hogwarts. I looked a little longer and realized that I was the only one on the platform by myself, until someone tapped my shoulder. "Lacey!" I cried throwing my arms around the black hair, green eyed girl. "I missed you so much!" I added still holding onto my best friend. "Merlin's beard me too, I have so much to tell you!" She replied joyfully as we finally let go of one another. "Have you seen Josh yet?" She asked referring to our other best friend. "No, but we should probably head onto the train. Its due to depart soon" I insisted.
We both boarded looking for a compartment. Luckily enough after not walking too far, we found an empty one, except for one boy inside. "Well look who it is" Lacey said crossing her arms trying to be serious. "Oh yes Simmons, you are very funny" Josh Durand said sarcastically. The three of us laughed as Lacey and I took a seat opposite of Josh. "So how was your summers?" He asked making conversation. "I went on this magnificent trip to America!" Lacey stated happily. "What about you Kendra?" Josh asked "The usual" I sighed.
They both knew that my parents were always traveling so I mostly spent my time at home alone.
The compartment had gone silent for a slight moment until Lace spoke up about her trip. "You know, America is quite different from here if you'd asked me" She started, but I decided not to listen as I looked out the window beginning to fall asleep."Wake up" A female voice called while a pair of soft hands pushed me slightly. "Ugh, five more minutes" I huffed shifting my body. "Kendra wake up! We're bound to be at Hogwarts any minute!" The voice snapped causing me to immediately open my eyes. The next thing I heard was a low laugh coming from the other side of our compartment. Evidentially it came from Josh, him earning a glare from me causing him to laugh longer. "You should probably change into your robes now" Lacey added from beside me while already in her robes. I grabbed my Slytherins robes and headed out the doors replying to her jokingly "Yes master Simmons". I felt her sarcastically glare at me as I left, sliding the compartment doors open, but I eventually heard giggles as I walked down the train.
I hadn't been walking for too long until the train hit a large bump and I stumbled knocking into someone. "Oh, I'm sorry" I said not exactly paying attention to who it was until they spoke. "Erm, it's fine" said a male voice. I looked up at a tall ginger boy to meet his brown eyes. "Weasley isn't it?" I asked remembering the Gryffindor. "Yea, and you're Martel" he replied already knowing who I was. "Kendra" I smiled at him extending my hand for him to shake. "Ron" He told shaking my hand. "Ronald, we should get back Harry wanted to-" came a high pitched voice that came from none other than Hermione Granger as she walked along the train towards us. I obviously knew this girl since she's the one who keeps boasting about her grades, which somehow seemed to top mine. "Oh Martel" Granger started not exactly fond of seeing me. "How was your summer?" She asked sharply. "Not too shabby, and you?" I replied trying to be nice. "Fine" Was all she said before turning to Ron. "We should go" And with that she started walking back in the direction she came, expecting Ron to follow her. "I'm gonna go, but I'll see you around, Kendra" Ron said giving me a small smile before turning and walking away. "See you Ronald" I responded earning a glare from Granger.
After that incident I had gotten changed into my uniform and headed back to the compartment where Lacey and Josh were in. Before we knew it we had already rode in the carriages to Hogwarts and were being seated. "Well, well, well, look who finally decided to show up" Blaise Zambini said right as I sat down beside him, while Josh and Lacey sat in front of us. "Blaise, I completely forgot you went to look for a compartment" I said trying to be serious but not doing very well since I let out a small giggle. "Great friend you are Martel" He said using my last name causing me to playfully slap his arm while I laughed and he cracked a smile.
After enough time McGonagall finished sorting the first years, the last one being sorted into Hufflepuff and everyone ate their dinners, Dumbledore stood in front of all his students, his arms opened wide in welcome. "So" Dumbledore started "I must once more ask for your attention, while I give out a few notices. Mr.Filtch the caretaker has asked me to tell you that the list of objects forbids in the castle this year has been extended to include Screaming Yo-yos, Fanged Frisbees And Ever-Bashing Boomerangs. The full list comprises some of four hundred and thirty seven items, I believe, and can be viewed in Mr.Flitch's office if anybody would like to check" Dumbledore informed eyeing the Weasley twins at the Gryffindor table. He continued on stating that the Forbidden Forest is out of bounds to all students and that only students in their third year or older are permitted to enter Hogsmeade.
"It is also my painful duty to inform you that the inter-house Quidditch Cup will not take place this year" Dumbledore sighed as many students began to fuss. "This is due to an event that will be starting in October, and continuing throughout the school year, taking up much of the teachers time and energy. But I am sure you will all enjoy it immensely. I have great pleasure in announcing that this year at Hogwarts-" Suddenly Dumbledore was cut off as the enchanted sky above began to produce thunder and lightning, and with that the Great Hall doors burst open with a loud bang. In came a man wearing a black travelling cloak drenched in water. A dull clunk followed the man as everyone noticed he limped due to a prosthetic leg. "That's Mad-Eye Moody, dad works with him in the Ministry. Odd folk if you ask me" Josh said while leaning over the table.
Moody reached Dumbledore shaking his hand and then sat down at the table after a small conversation between the two. He began to eat a plate of sausages as his normal eye lay on the food and the other scanned the students and Great Hall. "May I introduce our new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Moody" Dumbledore said, although no one clapped.
"As I was saying" Dumbledore continued taking the attention off the new teacher. "We are to have the honour of hosting a very exciting event over the coming months, an event which has not been held for over a century. It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year" He boomed as students all over the Hall discussed happily. Dumbledore began to say the history of the tournament and who will be coming to Hogwarts until a part caught my attention. "The Heads of the participating schools, along with the Ministry of Magic, have agreed to impose an age restriction on contenders this year. Only students who are of age, that it to say, seventeen years or older, will be allowed to put their names for consideration" And with that many people began to "boo" and shout outraged. "That's rubbish" Blaise called. "No its not, people die in this tournament, I think its ideal" Lacey said putting her two cents in. "I suppose, but it would be very interesting to be in the tournament" I said with a smirk peaking at my lips.
"Now it is late, and I know how important it is to you to all be alert and rested as you enter your lessons tomorrow morning, therefore I must say it is bed time. Chop chop!" Dumbledore called dismissing us to our commons rooms."I can't believe the Triwizard Tournament is going to be held at Hogwarts after all this time" Lacey said excitedly as we entered the Slytherins common room. "Sure, but it's a bloody joke making the rules that contestants have to be seventeen or older" Josh sighed obviously hurt that he couldn't enter. "I suppose" I said before adding "But it only means that Hogwarts is going to get interesting this year"
