_______________
The day I had to go undercover, as Officer Park put it, was a day that I would always remember. Officer Soo had placed a recorder on my shirt pocket that was small enough that you wouldn't be able to notice it unless you were told about it. They had trained me for days to prepare me for the conversation that would make or break the case. It was the conversation that also meant life or death for me.
Taehyung opened the door to his apartment and I looked at him as my heart felt like it was being squeezed in my chest. The man I was madly in love with was in front of me without any idea as to what was about to happen. "It was you, wasn't it?" I exclaimed.
I watched as he cocked his head to the side without showing any emotions on his face. "What do you mean?"
Before I answered I shoved passed him, it was the only way I wouldn't give away what was going on. If he had looked at my face in that moment I would have blown all that we had worked hard to prove. As I tossed myself down on his couch I said, "You killed them, your parents, your neighbors, our friends. It was you, wasn't it."
Taehyung dropped down onto the couch next to me, sitting close enough that I could smell his familiar cologne that made me want to grab ahold of him and press my lips against his. I mentally slapped myself. That's not what I was here for. When I went to mentally slap myself again Taehyung let out a quick laugh. "That's not funny," he said.
Now was the tough part, the real part where I proved if I was right or wrong.
"I'm not joking," I said as I turned towards him. "I know you killed them all. I've been watching you for awhile now and after your neighbor killed his girlfriend and himself, I was even more sure that you're the one who's been killing everyone."
There was absolutely no emotion on his face as I spoke what I had been thinking for the past year out loud. Even though I had expected a flicker in his eye that told me I had caught him, there was nothing. Absolutely nothing gave him away.
"That doesn't make sense," he said.
"It does. Your dad went missing, your mom over dosed on pills she hadn't taken in months, all our friends died in very odd ways, and your neighbor finally snapped. Interesting that all of these things surround you."
I had finally said it all out loud. I had finally told him everything that I knew, or thought I knew. Only one of two things could happen now. He would completely deny it, or he'd fall into my trap and admit everything. Either way, my heart was having a hard time accepting it. The longer I stared at him and said what I was told to say, I felt sick. My hands were sweating, and my stomach was beginning to churn.
"It's just a coincidence," he stated. That's when it happened. The flicker of emotion I had been looking for. His eyebrows pulled together for a split second as his eyes searched my face. Then he looked away and looked around the room.
I don't believe you," I said. "If you won't turn yourself in there's only one other option."
I didn't know what I was saying anymore. The only option was for him to admit everything and to have him arrested. Why was I saying he had to turn himself in or else? Maybe it was because, when I saw him looking around, I found myself able to read his face. It was the same look he had the day Namjoon had died.
"Do you think it was going to be that simple?" he began. "Did you honestly think I'd just turn myself in? Jungkook, I thought you knew me better than that," he exclaimed with a chuckle as he stood up from the couch and began to walk away from me.
He was looking around his apartment again, making me even more sick and nervous than I was before. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know that he was looking for something to use on me. If he got rid of me there wasn't going to be anyone who could catch him. But he was unaware of what I'd been doing behind his back.
Finally, he turned around towards me. My whole body felt sad as I met his eyes. It was now or never. I would have no regrets. There was no way I was going to get out alive if I didn't act now.
"I'm sorry," I exclaimed before shoving him to the ground and slipping my hands around his throat. I wasn't the smartest person in the world, but I knew I had strength. I cared about Taehyung, I was madly in love with him. The feelings I had for him were emotional and sexual.
However, Taehyung was taller than me. It was very easy for him to reach his hand up and grab a hold of my throat. For a moment I struggled before I resorted to punching at him with both fists. Taehyung was smart, but he wasn't strong. He was tall, but he wasn't strong enough to win a fight against me.
Taehyung tried to fight back, and I thought about stopping because I couldn't handle all the emotions I was feeling in that moment. When my eyes met him, and I saw a look of fear in his eyes, mixed with love, I almost did stop, but, after one final blow to the side of his head, he was unconscious.
Within minutes Officer Soo and Officer Park were inside of Taehyung's apartment, handcuffing him. They both rode along with the ambulance; just in case he woke up during the ride and tried to make a break for it. After he was checked at the hospital he was brought to the police station where he was going to be staying for a while. He hadn't admitted to the murders, but he had implied it. Taehyung was going to go to prison and he was going to be there for a long time. Possibly for the rest of his life.
At least he was supposed to be.
Only a few hours after he had been arrested Officer Park had called me to let me know that they couldn't find Taehyung. To say I had been completely ingulfed in fear was an understatement. I knew Taehyung was going to come for me. He was going to try and kill me because I was the one who had helped get him arrested.
I needed to prepare myself for the worst-case scenario.
I needed to get ready to fight for my life.
