'love is like a cigarette,' he'd told her, when they were sitting by the sea. icy water spilled across her pale feet as they rested in the iridescent hues of golden sun.

her eyes were like sadness, but at the same time made you want to break the rules just to see them light up.

'we're all crazy. that's why we're here, instead of where we're supposed to be,' he said. he pressed the cigarette into the sand.

'can i ask you something?'

'sure.'

'where do you sleep at night?'

he looked at her for a long time.
