I never did make it to my room unnoticed that day. The closest I got was my hand reaching out for the handle. But I never touched it before Hades was there in front of me, making me pull away from the door. His sudden appearance didn't startle me. I wasn't afraid of him; I never truly was. I was only as irritated with him as ever. I would never consciously show him my fears.
He had that smile, as he almost always had, that just showed he was trying not to snap at me about his suspicions. He wasn't that stupid, and I know it. Loki couldn't have been keeping himself in good condition like that for months on end, and none of the guards would bother caring for some pathetic Asgardian. There was only one logical explanation, and I was aware that all hands pointed to me.
"You're going to ask me where I've been." I plainly blurted as we stood in front of my door. Was I going to be honest with him? No, not exactly. "I've been out practicing my magic. Not to mention, I was also searching for Jormungandr. I'm starting to get suspicious that you took him from me for your own personal whims."
He seemed almost shocked at the accusations being placed on him. This was supposed to be the other way around. He lifted a hand and argued, "Your snake is a willing participant in my schemes. I'm not so sure he likes his father very much. He's so willing to help me out."
"I don't really care who his father is. I'm the one taking care of Jormungander, and you're making him torture that man, aren't you?" My voice considerably rose, but neither of us cared at that point.
Hades rolled his eyes as he stepped out from in front of my door. He shouted in exasperation, "What is it with you and that man? I try to make it as easy for you as possible, but you sometimes make it so difficult to be the good guy! Can you not question me for one moment?!"
I crossed my arms with a raised eyebrow. His fists were up in flames again. Oh, he was royally pissed today. After a moment of silence and thinking, I offered, "I could make you a deal on that one. You might like it."
He passed a hand through his hair, forcing himself to cool down from his uneven temper visibly. He interrogated with suspicious eyes, "And what might this deal be?"
"I'll stop questioning you or whatever it was you wanted me to do." I noticed the smile crawl across his face. This might work, and I was excited to see my results. I swiftly added, "I'll do that if you provide me with another pet. Seeing as to how you made personal use of my favorite one... I'd like a new companion. That man, the one in your dungeons, he would make a suitable pet. It's rather fetching, and I would love to make it obedient to me."
There was a tense silence, and Hades seemed at a loss for words. He couldn't seem to wrap his mind around my request. I'm not sure how long I stood there with my arms crossed with Hades staring at me like a dazed idiot. That was, until he spoke in a voice of disbelief, "You want that Norse God as your pet?"
"It's the most beautiful and most living thing I've seen in years, dad! I just want it to bow to me. I don't care if it was a Norse God. It's not anymore. I want it as mine! You do this sort of thing all the time with the mortals!" I slightly held a smile as I pressed, "I get what I want, and you won't have me questioning you anymore. You'll get what you want. Deal?" I held my hand out. This was it. This was making my deal. Excitement ran through me.
Hades was thoughtful until he surprisingly grasped my hand with a firm shake. That look on his face told me that we would both be pleased with this deal. We both got what we wanted out of this, and he got a troublesome God out of his hair.
As soon as his arms were back at his sides, he looked down at me and stated, "You'll get your pet. I warn you, do not remove the collar on his neck. That will be the only thing restraining his magical abilities. You'll provide him with anything that might keep him alive. I remove all of my responsibility for him."
I nodded my head swiftly and asked, "You'll have it brought to my room, won't you? I take it your guards can transport it here unharmed?"
Hades smiled and responded, "He'll be taken on a silver platter, jewel. I don't see why you can't be like this with the rest of the Underworld." He seemed to hold his surprisingly pleased glare for a moment before vanishing from the hall.
I let out a relieved breath and smiled as I quickly went into my room. Sure, Loki was going to be labeled a mere pet for me. But I wouldn't want him to be uncomfortable for however long his stay in my room would be.
I placed the bowl that once held water and the book on my desk as I began moving books back to the shelf that was lined against my wall. As soon as my books were neatly shelved, I fixed my bed and looked around, debating where Loki was going to sleep. It was then I realized just how difficult treating him like a pet would be. Supposedly he was a master of illusions... perhaps that could come in handy.
I called upon my two servants who were given to me to fetch me whatever I required. The moment they shuffled into my room, I ordered, "I require a bed to fit near the door of my closet. It has to be made to fit and be comfortable enough for about a six-foot human. And get me... a few green shirts and black pants that might fit him." Upon a single glance at them, they immediately left my room to gather what I asked for. I didn't doubt that they were going to the mortal world to get what I asked for.
I sat quietly on my bed, not seeing what else there was to do while waiting. I grabbed a book and leaned back on the headboard of my bed as I waited for Loki's arrival. His escape might be sooner than I thought. Today was going rather swimmingly.
(A/n: I took a short break from updating after college started, but then Hurricane Ida hit, and I haven't had electricity or wifi in a month. But now that things are semi-getting back to normal, I'll start updating again! While I was out, I was working on this story, so it will be 11 parts in total! So now you have an idea of how many more updates we'll have. Keep on simping, Loki simps!)
