My mom was knocking on my bedroom door. "Honey, can I come in?" She didn't wait for a response and opened the door. She sat down on the bed beside me and rubbed my face while I was crying face down.
"I know it's hard losing a friend, but you'll always have Alyssa."Alyssa came over earlier that morning to come to the funeral with me. I didn't tell my mom anything that happened back at the restaurant with Alyssa.
I wiped my cheek and sat up. "Yeah..."
"Awe, it's alright baby." She hugged me. "I'm going to cook dinner, alright? If you need me, I'll be downstairs." My mom left and closed the door behind her.
Had I had the chance to prevent the girls death?
Or was Alyssa just trying to get to me? And if so, why? We'd been friends since almost six.
Had she known the girl?I started to think about all these questions. I felt so bad. I couldn't do anything, either for myself, the girl, or Alyssa.
I felt tired and had a headache from crying so much. I put my earbuds in and lied my head down on my pillow.
Next thing I knew I was out.* * *
"Hey...hey." I heard a voice saying.
I woke on my back, facing up, and a bright light shining in my face. Someone with a blue face mask was standing over me. I couldn't feel much of anything, but I could feel my left side of my body as if it were on fire. I wanted to scream in pain but all that came out was "ahh" as I tried to sit up.
"Doctor, she's waking up." The voice was much more clearer this time.
"Oh...Tsk tsk tsk tsk," I raised my head to look over at the familiar figure that I've seen before in my previous dream. He pushed my head down. "No you disobedient girl. You're not supposed to wake up before the medicine wears off." He pushed my head back down and grabbed my right arm. Before I knew what was happening, I had a needle pierce through me.
I tried to scream again and it took all my energy until finally my vision went blurry and all around me turned black.
* * *
"Ad...Adeline."
I felt something touch my arm. My first reaction was to kick whatever it was.
"Ouch!" My brother, Josh, hit the ground landing on his back and his head. "What the fuck? I Was just trying to wake you up for dinner."
"I'm not hungry." I said sharply.
"Whatever." He got up and slammed the door behind him. It was dark. And quiet.
I crawled in the corner of my bed and hugged my pillow. I had to use the bathroom but I couldn't make myself get out of bed, but I also didn't want to stay where my mind would think most.
Where my imagination would torture my mind.
I ended up falling asleep again that night.
