Dear Alice,
My name is Alicia Thompson. I am your mother, I will be once you come into the world. I want to document your life in love letters to you so that when you are older, you will look at them and remember who you are.
Your father is William Night and my husband 6 years. Your father and I have been together for 20 years now. Each year getting better than the previous. Although, through the last few years, I've noticed a few changes between us.
For one, your father still looks the same from the first time I met him. Two, I work out, yet he remains the slim one. And three, he's as energetic as our three year old puppy.
Our puppy, I'm so excited for you to meet Flippy. He was our baby, that was till you came into our lives. I was so happy to hear that I was pregnant. I always wanted a baby of my own.
I'm a first grade art teacher, I have been for ten years now. Seeing all the young bright faces grow into amazing little artists, made me want to have one of my own. Someone that would call me "mom", and not by accident.
Now I am going to give you a little history lesson about your family.
First, me. Both my parents are deceased. They died in a tragic car accident on my 30th birthday. I remember the moment I was notified like it was yesterday. I was teaching my afternoon class, they had an assignment that they were to work on. When all was silent, the phone in the room rang. I stood up and walked over to the phone. I picked up the reciever and held it to my ear before speaking.
"Hello. This is Mrs. Night." I spoke clearly while I turned to watch over my hardworking students. The voice on the other end had told me that your father had stopped by and requested to speak with me urgently. Unfortunately I could not leave my class, so the secretary allowed him to come to my class with a visitor pass. I hung up the phone and sat back at my desk to wait for your father.
Your father knocked on the door, which caught the attention of all of my students. After I instructed them to go back to work, I stood up and went to the door once again. I opened the door and invited your father in. His eyes were wide and sad, he was never good at lying. He took my hand and looked straight into my eyes.
"We need to talk in private." I looked to my students before looking back at him. I could tell that whatever he wanted to tell me could not wait. So I stepped just outside the door and closed it slightly, so that I could still keep an eye on the children. "It's your parents." He lowered his voice as he looked at me.
"What about them?" My heart began to pound quickly. "Are they okay?" My worry turned to fear when I saw sorrow in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Alicia." My heart sank, tears swelled in my eyes. My legs went numb. I don't remember all that happened after, but your father would tell you that I began to weep uncontrollably. He would tell you that I screeched, catching the attention of all my students and even the the attention of those from the neighbouring classrooms.
I was later excused from school as another teacher was able to get his 6th grade class to join up with my 1st graders, to help them in their reading time. I'll be honest, it was weird returning to school the week after the incident. Apparently I had been the talk of the school while I was away. My students didn't know your father was my husband then. They kept asking me to bring him to "show and tell." Maybe I'll bring you to show and tell. I'm sure they'd love to meet you.
I'm an only child so that's about it on my side. Your father's side is quite the opposite. He's a middle child of 7 siblings. He has 2 older sisters: Greta and Ellen, he has two younger sisters: Anna and Jane, and then he has an older and a younger brother. Jack is your father's big brother and the eldest child, Eddie is your father's younger brother and the baby of the family. Both your father's parents are still alive as well as his grandfather.
Once you come, you will have 5 older cousins. Three from your uncle jack, one from your aunt Anna, and one from your aunt Greta. Your grandparents are super nice and will love to spoil you. They welcomed me lovingly and are excited to meet you. When they heard that you were a girl, your father's grandfather begged us to name you after your great grandmother: Alice Anne Nightingale. We were delighted to oblige, so if you ever wonder why you were named what you are named, you know.
You may come to notice this when you're older, but your family is special. I am a human, while your father is a werewolf. When he told me, I was 15 and it was our second date. I'm still with him.
Both your father and I are are curious to see if you come out as a human or as a hybrid. It should be fun. I'll leave you at this, it's getting late now.
Love you always,
Mom.
