Zoey's POV

Zoey
Be at the warehouse at 10 am sharp.

I rolled my eyes at the note and got out of bed, stretching my back to release the cramps in the various joints in my body.

I took a shower in less than 10 minutes and pulled on the clothes I bought that day for work, before going to the kitchen to grab something before heading out.

Since it was only 9, I took my time making my sandwich, humming to some random tune as I worked.

Suddenly I heard someone clearing their throat, so I turned around partially to see Zack standing at the entrance, grinning at me from ear to ear.

"I guess you know the way around the house by now eh?" he said, his tone playful.

"It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the kitchen is right next to the staircase" I replied back, still making my sandwich meticulously.

He laughed at that and walked over to where I was standing and glanced over my shoulder to observe me at work.

Honestly, there really was nothing fascinating in watching me butter two slices of bread together, and dump all the vegetables I knew I could eat raw inside before chucking it in the sandwich maker.

I'm talented right?

"You what one?" I asked Zack, walking over to the sandwich maker to turn it on.

He took one look at the sandwich I had made with so much difficulty, and wrinkled his nose.

"I'll pass" he said, barely restraining his facial muscles from twitching into a full blown smirk.

I rolled my eyes in response and continued making my sandwich, ignoring his presence.

He just stood there watching me cook, a weird expression in his emerald eyes, with his eyebrows furrowed together like he was trying to figure something out.

After 5 minutes of him constantly staring at me, I decided to snap him out of his trance by walking upto him and snapping my fingers right in front of his face.

He blinked slowly and looked down at me, and I stared right back, with my arms crossed across my chest.

"You done enjoying the view or should I get you a stuffed toy of myself to keep you company all day long?" I asked with annoyance.

"You wish you had anything worth staring at chica" he replied back with arrogance.

"I know that I have killer assets Zack" I said finally, moving to get my sandwich from where it still was lying undisturbed.

I started digging into it when I felt someone move behind me, and when I turned around I came face-to-face with Zack.

"Since you aren't doing anything productive here except annoying me, you can leave the kitchen now. Or do you need directions to find the door?" I said, munching on my delicious sandwich.

"I just wanted to say that I'm glad you're staying here and that my brother decided not to kill you just yet. It makes me feel like I'm normal y'know?" he said sincerely, that weird look again masking his emerald gaze as he searched my face.

Oh. Guess that makes two of us eh?

"Uh I'm glad I'm staying too Z" I replied with a small smile.

He smiled back and walked out of the kitchen after giving me a two finger salute.

I glanced at the clock and nearly dropped my half eaten sandwich.

How the hell is it already 9:50?

I stuffed the remaining sandwich into my mouth and raced out of the kitchen, and out the front door to see the limo already waiting for me.

I jumped inside and almost yelled at Gabe, the driver to race to the warehouse as fast as he could before the boss decided to feed me to the dogs.

I made it up the lift in record time, but apparently even my ninja speed wasn't quick enough because as soon as I stepped into the room, panting like an over-worked dog, I was greeted by the stone hard face of the boss, which grew even stonier when he spotted me.

Oh shizzlepops.

I walked through the casino like room, my feet sounding like grenades in the room which had grown so silent that you could even heard a pin being dropped.

When I reached the boss, I lowered my eyes, looking at the floor instead of his piercing gaze.

"You are 1 minute and 20 seconds late Zoey" he said in a clipped tone, the temperature in the room dropping by another 20 degrees with the icy-ness of his tone.

I think I got a frostbite.

I looked up, indignation shining in my eyes as I glared at him defiantly.

"Pardon me, but I think you have mistaken me for someone who actually gives a damn."

I could hear everyone's shocked gasps ring out from around me, and well let's not go to how the boss was looking at me right now.

Kinda like deja vù right?

"I think you're forgetting who you are talking to Zoey" he said, his tone laced with venom.

If I had been a normal human being, my immediate response would have been to just shut up and act like this never happened. But me being the idiot that I am, decided that now was the perfect time to act sassy.

"Is your head always this inflated with your ego or is today just a special occasion?" I retorted, my head on the verge of exploding.

Seriously, does he think that he's some god over here? I'd rather worship Satan than treat this asshole with respect.

His eyes grew darker with barely restrained anger and his jaw clenched to a point of dislocating it.

Then he leaned forward and brought his mouth near my ear, so that only I could hear what he was about to say next.

"Listen here little Zoey" he started, his tone soft and dangerous.

"You may think that you got away with slapping me the first time we met"-

Wait he remembered that?

-"but you listen closely because I'll repeat this only once. I am the fucking boss over here, and if you decide to let your mouth run free the next time, I will be very... displeased. Know that with your actions, there will be consequences. And they will not be pretty. Are we clear?"

I looked into his eyes, and with as much venom as I could gather, I spat out one word.

"Crystal."
