Broken Roads

Ruby awakens by the sound of a steady annoyingly familiar beeping noise coming from the right of her . Her almond shaped eyes shuffle beneath her lids a few times before she finally opens her eyes only to immediately close them .
Everything was so bright and blurry . She slowly began to try to pry her eyes open once again and winces slightly. What had happened ?
Glancing down at her lower body she sits up on the hard hospital bed .
Her whole body seemed to be sore . Her mind was going haywire .
She figured that she was in the hospital . Clearly .
She just had not really recalled HOW she ended up here .
She glances at the monitor beside her and watches the screen intensely almost as if In a trance . Her mind drew a complete blank .
To say that she was genuinely confused was an understatement .
"Mrs Langenheim ?" Ruby jumps at the sudden authoritative voice coming from the doorway of her room .
Glancing up at the middle aged man in a white coat - she assumed he was her doctor . She blinks feverishly and looks at him .
The tone in the room was uneasy . Uneasy and confusing - Atleast for Ruby . He looks at her with an unreadable expression .
Aww hell .
It was bad news . She just knew it by the look on his face . Stepping forward slowly - he shuts the door quietly .

"How are you feeling ? Any dizziness , nausea, Shortness of breath or Chest pains ? " She recoils slightly at the loaded question and immediately starts to get anxious . Something didn't feel right . She knew something was wrong .
She attempts to open her dry mouth and is only able to muster up a near whisper loud enough so that he could comprehend what she was saying .
"What's going on ? " As soon as the words leave her throat - She hears a Big Bang and her head snaps towards the walls next to her.
She could hear someone screaming and sobbing . Their words sounded muffled so she couldn't tell what was being said . She hears another big crash and brings her legs over to the side of the bed , only wincing slightly .
The doctor immediately springs into action and bolts out of the door leaving it wide open .

She could hear the voice more clearly now .  Raw emotions could be felt from the next room . 
"LET ME GO . DON'T TOUCH ME "
Whoever it was sounded angry - furious even . However Ruby could sense the sadness and despair in that tone as well . It sounded oddly familiar . Like she had heard that voice before . Without thinking, She cautiously stands up only wobbling slightly .
   She made sure she had a good balance and slowly makes her way out of her door and out into the chaotic hallway .
The scene before her maker her eyes widen and her heart jump .
Ruby spots three nurses trying to calm the frazzled and upset young woman down . The room was a mess  ; everything was on the floor in disarray.
There she was . The girl she couldn't get out of her head standing in right in front of her about to jump out of a window .

Disappointment had ran its course through Zanes body so strongly when she opened her  eyes only to realize that she was in a hospital . She was alive .
Something she didn't want to be . Tears steadily make their way down her pale cheeks and sobs forces its way out of her mouth .
   Now she stood only seconds away from her freedom .
She held the window open shaking slightly as she through her unsteady leg  over the window so that she was straddling the ledge  .  Her nurses stood there panicking as if they weren't sure what to do . 
"Please don't do this . Just please let us help-" Zane cuts her off as soon as she catches on .

  "You can't help me ! " she sighs sadly and looks out and downwards towards the busy street . The ant like appearance making her realize just how far up this window was .

  All She wanted was her brother back . She wanted to hear his laugh and hear his voice just one more time .  Not being able to say goodbye was what had hurt the most . She didn't even get to tell him that she loved him . He took his own life without so much as a goodbye . Part of her felt angry but the for the most part - she felt sadness . Crippling loneliness that only her brother could fill .

She couldn't take it- it was too much. She made a sudden movement to let herself fall by leaning forward ever so softly but before she could fully release her legs -

"WAIT" An angelic voice calls out from behind her .
      Making sure she keeps a tight hold onto the window she glances back ever so slowly and her eyes glimmer in realization . Standing before her in a thin hospital gown -wobbling ever so carefully  towards her ; was the girl she had bumped into from the Gas station ..
      Her blue eyes shining with concern and sadness . Maybe even a hint of panic could be spotted in her breathtaking eyes .
Noticing The woman had gotten even closer to her she yelled out .
"DON'T MOVE ANY CLOSER " Ruby immediately backs off and puts her hands up in defeat .  

    "Please don't do this -It's not worth it . Just come back inside and we can talk about this . I can help you ! I know what you're going through just please . It gets better "  The woman's face displaying unshed tears and she could hear her voice slightly waver . Zane didn't want to hear any of this .
    Why wouldn't they just let her die ? She just wanted to die in peace .
She could feel the Short haired woman's intense gaze - as a pregnant pause enters the tense hospital room .
The words that flowed out of her  just seemed to have a mind of their own .
"My brother is DEAD. So no - it won't be okay ! IT WONT GET BETTER " Screaming slightly making Ruby flinch back .  The coldness in her voice was very evident .

"You ever feel trapped Jay ? " Zane asks absentmindedly . Her mind getting lost in her suffocating thoughts. Passing the blunt to her Brother , She peeks up him in curiosity . He hesitates just a second before he replies softly .

"All the time"

Making sure her eyes followed his face carefully- She observes him silently . His stance against the carpet seemed almost sad. Her gaze falls back up at the peppered white ceiling and she sighs sadly as she grabs his hand .

" Me too .." She whispers and gives it a firm squeeze.

Zane could feel her stomach clench up at the memory and she grits her teeth in pain alerting the three nurses even more .
She slouches over slightly and whimpers .
Ruby notices and while she's distracted - she jumps up and grabs at the raven haired girl and pulls her out of the window as fast as she can .

Zane immediately screams once her body hits the floor .
"LET ME DIE " She demands as she struggles to make her way back to the window . She just wanted to be left alone .

She couldn't move another inch because She was being held back Into a tight hug from behind as to stop her from moving completely . She balls her fists up and hits whatever she could to get to the window - the other nurse jumped into action.

"Call for code yellow now " One nurse says as the observe the sobbing and upset patients fists landing on the other woman's body repeatedly with no effect .
Ruby just took it . Her arms wrapped tightly around her fragile shaking body and her face buried on the side of Zanes neck .
Zanes body language spelling that she was desperate to get to that ledge .

"LET ME DIE. GET OFF ME " she continued to yell out in fury . Her hits harder and harder each time .

"No" Ruby struggles to let out softly .
"You are loved for . You are cared about - you deserve to LIVE " With those words - Despair hits her body like a ton of bricks over and over .

Her brother loved her . Her brother had cared about her . He was gone though . She was left with not one soul on this earth that understood her .
She looks up and hit her shoulder as hard as she can .
"Let . Me . Die . PLEASE" Se cries spitting out every last syllable in a pleading tone .
     Ruby's eyes soften even more and she hugs her arms around the front of her stomach even tighter as if trying to keep her together .
Her heart broke at those four words . She knew what it felt like to feel that exact same way . As cheesy as it sounded - she wanted to take all the paint away .
     The warmth and worry seems to finally get to Zane as she lets out a painfully loud wail and finally she slumps into her arms .
