"Have you ever thought of how weird the word orange is?" She asked.
"What?" I ask, laughing at her random outburst.
"Say it. Or-ange. Isn't it weird?" She asks again.
"You're being delusional there's nothing wrong with the word orange." I respond, shaking my head and smiling.
"Yes, it is!" She argues, lifting her head from my shoulder. "Come on just say it with me! O-r-a-n-g-e."
"I'm not saying it."
"Pweeeseeeee." She says like a little kid and pouting her lip.
"Fine, I'll say it." I agree.
"Omg now you have to shout it. Omg let's play the penis game but with the word orange!" She exclaims.
"You're so weird." I say, rolling on my back and then up again.
"Come one, let's do it!"
"Okay, okay you start."
"Orange." She barley whispers.
"This is so stupid. Why am I doing this?" I groan.
"Alex you said you would!"
"Okay, okay fine!"
"ORANGE!" She screams at the top of her lungs.
"ORANGEEEEEE!" I scream, dragging out the e.
"ORANGE" She screams in my face.
"ORANGE" I scream back.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Someone yells from down the street.
We look at each other with wide eyes and burst out laughing.
"Ugh I don't wanna go to school tomorrow." She says pulling out a cigarette from her jacket pocket. I turned away and cringed at the smell. "Want to try?" She asked, not noticing my discomfort. "Suit yourself." She replied after I shook my head.
"You know, you've changed a lot since I first met you." I said after a moment of silence.
"Oh really? How?" she asked taking another drag from the cigarette.
"You started smoking for starters." I said. "You should really stop before you get lung cancer you know."
"Yes, dad." She responded, rolling my eyes and putting the cigarette out.
"You started partying a lot more."
"You have no idea how much I partied before I met you."
I chose to ignore that statement before continuing, "And you used to say how you wanted a loving and committing relationship but I'm pretty sure all your relationship with Zach is sex. Is there even an emotional attachment there anymore?"
She scoffed, "Where the fuck did you get audacity to talk to me like that from?" she asked shaking her head in disgust. "Are you done belittling my life or do you want me to stay so you can put me down even more?" I didn't respond and she scoffed again. "Asshole" I heard her mutter.
"Whatever happened to writing? You said you were going to be this world-famous author and now I hardly see you pick up a pencil."
"I gave up. You know that."
"Yeah, you gave up on a lot of things."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing. I gotta get home." I answered, getting up and brushing the dirt off my jeans.
