My parents were going off on a rant. Its summer vacation, school let out two days ago, and what is there to argue about? my report card. I plugged myself into my phone and was about to absorb the upbeat music when I was pulled back to reality.

"Are you listening?!" My dad shouts at me.

"Me?" i ask completely clueless.

"Get out." he shouts at me.

My mother is helpless. She has no power over my dad.I get up from the table and head over to the soccer fields. I was watching the try outs when my friend Ceylan came over by me.

"Hey."

"Hi Ceylan."

"Parental issues?"

"Yeah... can you tell me a joke to make me feel better please?"

"sure... What did one algebra book say to the other algebra book?"

"I don't know..." I lie. I've heard this joke before...

"We got problems!" Ceylan starts laughing hysterically.

"Funny." I reply just a little bit sad.

Ceylan and I have been friends forever. We tell each other everything. He always can make me smile even if I really don't want to. We look a little bit alike. We both have electric blue eyes, and we love hoodies. I usually wear yellow or orange hoodies. Today, I was wearing a yellow hoodie, blue short shorts, and orange high top sneakers.

I was sitting on the side lines with Ceylan, when a boy with orange and yellow hair came over by us.

"Hey Chook!" Ceylan shouts.

"Hey Ceylan! who's this?" he says.

"This is Ray." Ceylan Replies.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Chooki." Chooki says.

I shake his hand.

"You here to try out for the team?" Chooki asks.

"Well, not really... I could give it a try..." I replied.

Chooki helps me to my feet and we head down to the field and start practicing.I Score a few goals against him, we were playing one on one. We started playing with the whole team and it turns out I was pretty good and so was Chooki. He passed the ball to me and I scored a goal.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He said when the game was over.

"You didn't ask." I replied.

We started talking under a tree near the beach. The sun was almost down and it made the water look very pretty.

"Why were you here if you didn't want to try out?" He asks.

"Trouble... My dad wanted a son, not. girl that tries not to hear him. My mom has no power at home. When my dad yells at me, my mom has to stand there and watch." I reply.

"Why don't we call the police? you can stay with me if you want. We look almost the same. you have honey blond hair and we look a lot alike other than that." He says.

"Go ahead... call the police... I'll go home be fore the scream fest starts... I'll meet you here later tonight... I can text you when, but I don't have your number..."

"Here." he wrote down his number on a small piece OF paper.

"Thanks." I reply

"You're welcome... pack up a bag of clothes and meet me here when you can."he says

"ok. thank you Chooki."

"You're welcome Ray."

I ran home just as an argument was starting. I ran upstairs and was undetected. I packed up a bag of clothing and I ran back down the stairs grabbing my roller blades and sneakers. I grabbed my phone and charger off of the kitchen table. I was almost out the door when my dad caught my arm.

"Where do you think you're going?" he glares at me.

"Away from here." I shoot in his face and jerk my arm out of his grasp.

"Get back here!" he yells after me.

"You'll never take me back alive! I hate you!" I shouted at my father and my mother was crying.

I ran as fast as I could. I ran to the tree and sat there. My friend Gen was there reading a book. I sat next to him.

"Why are you here?" he asks.

"No reason... you don't need to know..." I shout at him. every word laced with venom.

"Well sorry for being here." he says.

"Bye Dromus." I say before getting up to leave.

He tugged  me back down.

"How did you know?"

"Wasn't hard to figure out." I snap.

He lets me go and stares at me with his red eye. There is so much anger burning in his eye. It looked as it it was a fire. I ran. I ran away from Dromus/Gen. He kept calling my name, but I kept running. I bumped into Chooki and he held me close and whispered:

"Lets go home."

I followed Chooki over to his house. It was nice. He showed me around and where I could sleep. I was staying in a bright yellow room. There was a bed, dresser, book shelf, closet, window, and a desk. The bed had white sheets and blankets. The carpet was yellow. Even though it was dark out side, the room was blinding.

"My room is right next door. If you need anything, knock on the door or the wall." Chooki told me.

"Thanks Chook." I hug him.

I was happy that I had a friend other than Gen and Ceylan. Chooki was serious, but not emo. He was smart and a little bit funny. He left and closed the door behind him. I started organizing my things. I brought a few books with me and I set my sketch books on the desk along with my art supplies. The other books I had weren't sketch books so I put those on the book shelf. I hung up some of my clothing in the closet and was surprised to find some clothing already in the closet and dresser. I put on my pajamas before I heard a knock on the wall. I walked over to the wall the head of the bed rested against.

"Chooki?"

"Yeah. You like the room?"

"Its great. I just finished getting settled in."

"Great! I'll see you in the morning... oh yeah, if you walk to the back of the closet, there's a.door. It leads to a bath room."

"Thanks Chooki."

"You're welcome."

"Night"

"Night."

I finish getting ready for bed, when Mr. Mason knocked on the door.

"Hey, just wanted to see how you were doing." he said

"I'm doing great, thanks for asking and letting me stay." I reply.

"Good night Ray. You're welcome." he smiles and he closes the door.and turns out the light.

I turn on my phone and listen to some music. I got under the blankets and fell asleep.
