CHAPTER 25:
"Leonardo, I was so worried after what happened at the dance!"Lizzie exclaimed throwing herself at me once she'd opened her front door. She had gladly pushed Mr. Miller out of the way. It was blatantly obvious that he was pissed at me for abandoing his daughter.
"I'm sorry but I got caught up in everything that was happening. I just wanted to make sure that you were safe," I admitted rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.
Lizzie blushed shifting from one foot to the other. "You're so sweet," she blushed looking up at me with shimmering eyes behind glasses. I fought not to roll my eyes.
"Well, I had fun and I'm glad you're okay. I guess I'll see you around at school then," I rushed out jogging backwards.
The last thing I needed was for her to think that something could or would happen between us. Especially with the mixed feelings I was having towards Ray. Lizzie didn't deserve that despite the fact that she was super annoying and a know-it-all at times. Throw in the fact that she was kind of stalkerish and you had a hell of a combination of crazy obsessed high school girl. Cole waited for me in his mom's car which he'd borrowed this Saturday. Thankfully, he didn't remember anything from the night before after dancing with "Ray". He assumed he got smashed and just couldn't remember anything because he was too intoxicated.
Slumping into the passenger seat, I signalled for him to drive off before Lizzie could run over and say anything else. Or worse, her father. Laughing, he shook his head and took off down the long driveway. The Honda didn't fit in the quiet wealthy neighborhood where more expensive cars were parked in driveways and on the street. I wouldn't be surprised if Lizzie's weekly allowance was more than what I got together in a year. It was weird that she complained about prices of clothes, electronic devices, and even Starbucks.
"Loco Lizzie threatening to stake out at your house?" Cole joked referring to the year before when she'd followed me home and then climbed up the old ladder attached to the side of my house to tap on my window and get my attention.
"Nah, but I do feel kinda shitty considering the situation," I sighed dreading the conversation I knew needed to happen. Cole is my best friend and he already knows that I like Ray as it is.
"You mean Lizzie's dad wanting to put a bullet between your eyes?" he laughed bobbing his head to the song playing on the radio.
"He'll want to do more than that when she finds out," I groaned washing my hands over my face in frustration, "I think I might actually be feeling . . . some type of way about Ray." It felt so good to get it off my chest to another human being and not some suave elf.
Cole nearly hit the car in front of us as we stopped at a light and he swivelled in his seat to stare at me in shock. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Ray, as in Rayna Belvoir? The hottie you swore up and down that you didn't even like to be in the same room with! Is there something I missed here that has you confessing all of a sudden? Was I really that drunk last night?" he rambled turning his attention back to the road.
Knowing Cole and his one track mind, I didn't want to tell him exactly what happened either in the kitchen nor in the room I'd stayed in while away from home. But honestly, what choice did I have in the matter?
"Well, some hours before the dance," I said clearing my throat and staring out of the window, "We sort of had a moment in the kitchen. But before you say anything, we didn't have sex and I didn't even kiss her. I wanted to but she hopped down from the counter and pretty much teased me about the woody jerking out of my pants from standing between her legs while she traced circles over my hand. She's so irritating!"
