"HUH?"

Umi had just received a phone call from her best friend Honoka. They had made plans to head over to Kotori's place that evening for a sleepover. However, the cheerful girl had called to give her some terrible news.

"Hey, you don't need to yell!" Honoka whined. "Like I said, mom really needs an extra hand today so I can't come over."

Umi let out an exasperated sigh and threw herself onto her bed which was covered in light blue sheets. "Honoka, I can't do this-" she fidgeted nervously.  "Not by myself."

"Umi, it's a sleepover. With Kotori. Your best friend." Honoka murmured.  "Are you scared of her or something-" "NO!" The orange haired girl flinched at the volume of her friend's voice. "I said you didn't have to shout!" She complained as she popped another piece of candy into her mouth. What was Umi's deal? She had been acting strangely towards Kotori for almost a month. Honoka began to wonder if they had a fight that she wasn't aware of.

"Anyways, Umi, I have to go now. You'll be okay, I promise." Umi smiled at Honoka's statement. "Thank you. I'll call you tomorrow." "See ya!" Honoka hung up and Umi was alone yet again with her own thoughts.

"Alone. With Kotori?" Umi murmured to herself. She buried her face into her hands. It's not that she didn't want to hang out with Kotori. In fact, she really wanted to. But ever since she had realized her true feelings for her, she couldn't function properly around her. Not unless Honoka was around. "Damn it, Honoka..."

Later that evening

After Umi had finished packing her bag with clothing, pillows, and blankets, she made her way to Kotori's house. She could've sworn her heart was about to jump out of her chest. "God, why can't I just relax?" she thought to herself. "It's just Kotori. Just Kotori."

When Umi arrived, she found Kotori already standing outside of her door. "Hey, Umi! I'm glad you're here!" "G-Good morning-" Umi stopped herself. "Evening! I meant good evening...Kotori." She had just arrived and she was already a mess. Kotori giggled softly. "You're so silly, Umi. Come, let's go inside!"

Once they entered the house, Umi realized how quiet it was. Was there no one else here? "Your mother...is she here?" "She won't be here today. She has things to do." "O-Oh. I see." The blue haired followed Kotori up the stairs and into her bedroom. Everything was so organized and clean. Umi set her bag down on the floor. "Oh! I almost forgot about the snacks!" Kotori said. "I'll be right back!" She made her way back down the stairs and Umi was left alone with her thoughts again. "We're completely alone. This is bad." The blue haired girl thought to herself.

She sat on the floor and played with the strap of her bag anxiously. "What if I say something weird? What if I make things awkward? What if she won't want to be around me after this?" She began to run her fingers through her hair. "Calm down, Umi. It's just-" "I'm back!" Umi yelped as Kotori tapped on her shoulder lightly. Kotori stumbled backwards slightly  in surprise. "Oh, dear. I'm so sorry for startling you-" The brunette apologized. "I-It's alright. I was just lost in thought..." "I see."

Kotori smiled and sat down next to Umi. Umi's breath hitched slightly. Being so close to Kotori made her feel weak. "Pocky stick?" "Sure." Umi took a pocky stick from the box and placed it in her mouth. "It's a shame Honoka couldn't join us today." Kotori said, nibbling on the end of her strawberry pocky stick. "Ah, yes. Hopefully she'll be able to join us next time."

The two girls continued to talk for a while. They talked about what colleges they'd like to attend after they graduated, how much fun it was being school idols with everyone else, the cute outfit designs Kotori came up with, and much more. Everything was going smoothly for Umi. Until now. "Hey, Umi. Have you ever kissed a boy?" Kotori asked. Umi tensed up. "N-No... I haven't. Have you?" The brunette shook her head. "I heard it feels nice. I'd like to try it someday." Umi felt the heat rise up to her face. She began to pray that what she was about to say next wouldn't make everything awkward. "Um...well, maybe we could...you know." she muttered, avoiding making any eye contact with Kotori. "Kiss?" Kotori asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Umi nodded. "J-Just because we both haven't kissed anyone yet. We don't have to if you don't want to-" "Let's do it then."

Her head perked up suddenly and she glanced at Kotori. Kotori smiled sweetly at her and Umi could've sworn her heart had melted. "Let's kiss." The brunette brought herself closer to Umi. "Is this actually happening? This can't be happening." She thought to herself. "Come on, Umi. This is your chance." Umi leaned in closer towards Kotori, the space between them slowly beginning to close. Finally, their lips met. Kotori wrapped her arms around Umi's waist. It really did feel nice. Umi pulled away and glanced down at the ground. "S-So...how was it?" Kotori grinned and cupped Umi's cheek. "It was amazing. Just like I thought it would be." The blue haired girl blushed. "I'm glad. I was worried I wasn't doing it right." Kotori chuckled and rested her head on her friend's shoulder. "Can I tell you something?" She asked softly. "Mhm." "I love you." Umi smiled. "I love you too, Kotori."

Maybe tonight wouldn't be so bad.
