"Hey, beautiful! Why don't you come over here?" some scruffy looking man jeered from the other side of the street, accompanied by a few whistles.
Nagisa put his head down and walked quickly into the nearest bar. Never in his life would he picture himself in this situation.
But there he was, walking down the city streets, rocking a long, blue wig and heels. Mind you, he was pretty confident about the whole idea, but that was BEFORE he had encountered countless sleazy men. Just in one night, he had had people grab at him, slap him, wolf-whistle at him and even try to pick him up and carry him off. It was only because he had a basic knowledge of how to hit someone in the face that he wasn't tied up in some dude's basement.
Sighing to himself, he went up to the barista and ordered a shot of Jack Daniel's.
"Straight?"
"Mm." he mumbled, not wanting to put any effort into speaking. He was too tired.
The barista looked at the young boy, worriedly.
"You alright, miss?" he questioned while pouring the drink.
Nagisa snatched it off the counter, chugged it down and chuckled.
"Long day." He sighed.
The Barista nodded. He was used to dealing with people drinking away their problems. He was curious, however. The supposed woman in front of him had something off about her.
"Gorgeous, come take a seat!" a middle-aged man with an unruly beard called from a corner table, gesturing to his lap.
Nagisa groaned and put his head down on the bar.
"I just wanted to be myself..." he mumbled under his breath.
The Barista looked down at the troubled "girl" in front of him and then again at the man who had shamelessly cat-called her.
"Excuse me, but you gotta leave."
The man's smug smile turned sour.
"What?"
"You just objectified a customer. Get out."
The man spluttered an excuse and, shortly after a few harsh curse words, he flipped a chair and stormed out.
Nagisa looked up.
"You didn't have to do that."
The Barista smiled.
"Course I did. Can't have a lady like you being disrespected."
Nagisa beamed.
"He said 'Lady'"
He couldn't help but feel bad, though. Like he was deceiving people.
"A...actually...I'm a...dude..." he said, hesitantly, not wanting to look the red-head in the eye.
The Barista raised an eyebrow, and then his eyes widened in realisation.
"Oh! Sorry." He winked at Nagisa and went back to cleaning glasses, which was not the reaction Nagisa expected.
"Wha- but- aren't you...disgusted or something?" He blurted out, and then quickly slapped a hand over his mouth. The Barista turned to him, obviously surprised.
"Why would I be?"
Nagisa looked the fiery-haired man straight in the eye. It was only then that he noticed the utter confusion in his eyes. He really didn't have a problem with it.
"In fact," he continued, turning away from the bluenette, "if you don't mind me saying, I find it quite attractive."
Nagisa's face instantly flushed a bright red. He opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it again in fear of stumbling on his words.
"T...thank you? I g-guess?" he finally said after a long pause of awkward silence.
He heard the Barista chuckle and then ask the curious boy's name.
"N-Nagisa. And you?"
"Karma, pleased to make your acquaintance." He took Nagisa's hand and kissed it lightly, before pouring a few more shots and handing them to the flustered boy, who downed them without hesitation.
The afternoon went on and soon turned into evening. By then, Nagisa was extremely intoxicated.
"A'ight, I'ddd better goo." He slurred and picked himself up off the bar stool, his wig drooping slightly.
"Do you have any way of getting home?" Karma asked apprehensively.
"Nahhhh I'll just walk." He grinned and then demonstrated his perfect "walking" capabilities by getting as far as approximately two steps and then tripping over his own shadow, into a nearby empty table.
Propping himself up, his face as red as Karma's hair, his legs wobbled and he gave Karma a shaky thumbs up.
"I got this." He said, rather confidently for someone who had almost split a table in half.
Karma chuckled and called a cab, knowing full well there was no way the bumbling drunk could make it home alone.
"I need your address."
"Wh-*burp* Why? So you can sleep with me?" Nagisa ambled over to the bar once again and pointed a finger at the Barista, "I'm on ta you."
Karma shook his head.
"Come ta think of it," the drunken (still currently dressed up in drag) boy rambled, "Wouldn't mind that much." He winked at Karma, who turned away to hide his red face and call a cab.
He eventually got Nagisa's address by talking him into a corner. He walked him outside and into the taxi.
"You're alright by yourself?"
"Hmm, you'd better come with me to make sure." He licked his lip. Karma rolled his eyes, smiled and slammed the car door shut.
.........
The next day, Karma was working a morning shift. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a bright blue-haired young boy walk through the bar door. He was dressed in a simple t-shirt and shorts, nothing like the getup he was wearing the night before.
"Hey." He saluted the red-head.
Karma couldn't help but laugh.
"So this is what you look like out of drag, huh?"
"I came here to apologise and say thank you, don't tease!" Nagisa huffed and then couldn't help but smile at the Barista.
Karma nodded
"No worries, really. I deal with drunks all the time, it's part of the job. Although..." he grinned, "I don't think I've ever dealt with one quite that lusty."
Nagisa's face turned scarlet.
"Oh god, I didn't do anything, did I?!"
"Nah. Well I mean, you tried to. I didn't."
He let out a sigh of relief and aimed a look of appreciation at Karma.
"Thanks. I probably would've done some regrettable stuff." He paused, almost as if thinking about it for a second, and then said
"Regrettable while drunk, anyway."
Karma smirked and gestured for the boy to come closer. He handed him a small rectangle of cardboard.
"My card. Call me." Karma winked and with that, Nagisa walked out of the bar with a red face and a red-haired boy on the mind.
