The Farm

I drive down the long dirt driveway hitting muddy puddles and pot holes. I winced at my poor truck hitting the potholes. I pulled into the top of the driveway and parked next to all the trucks. I walked up the front steps to this old farm house and I knocked on the door. A nice middle age woman opened the door,
" ahh you must be Katie" the woman said "come in, sit down, we can get started now" she said and opened the door wide enough so I could walk in. I hurried in to the living room. Looking around at everyone who was sitting on the couches and lazyboy chairs. I saw and open spot on the couch and sat down next to two guys, I looked over shocked to see a familiar face. She smiled at me and we turned our attention to the lady speaking.

" as you all know we have bought this 1500 acre farm. We have found all of you to run it because you all have different levels of expertees." the lady said. "As we already discussed with you, you will all be living here and it will be free living and we will pay you to stay here and maintain the property and animals. Now Katie will be in charge of the barns and overall cate of the animals, Dana will be in charge of meds and medical care of all the animals, Michael and Drew will be in charge of agriculture and hay and overall status of the property and barns and Ethan is our farrier."

I looked around at all the people sitting around us. The lady who I spoke to on the phone for my interview, I think her name was Lilly, mentioned five people but there are six of us sitting here.

" so I will give you all a little while to bring in all of your belongings and get set up, I have put your name on the door that belongs to your room"
I looked over at Garret knowing his name didn't get called when all the other names did for jobs. We were dismissed to get our belongs, I walked outside to my truck, I opened the door and grabbed my bags. I started to walk back in to the farmhouse.
" hi um I'm Ethan" I turned around to see a tall boy standing next to me.

" hi I'm Sky" I said with a smile as he opened up the door for me. I made my way upstairs and saw the door with my name on it. I flicked the switch on and looked into my new room. It was simple a queen sized bed a dresser and a nightstand. I smiled at it and dropped all my stuff onto my bed. I walked across the hallway to Dana's room and leaned against her doorway.
"Long time no see Dana" I said
" yeah how are u doing" she asked
" im doing well" I said
" wow because you broke my brothers heart" she said bitterly
" are you kidding me Dana, he cheated on me" I said and rolled my eyes. " can we just agree to leave things behind us." I asked.
She sighed and nodded her head. "Nice clean slate" she said extending her hand "hi I'm Dana" she said with a giggle. I laughed and hugged her, she was like a sister to me and after everything I went though with my ex I was heart broken to loose a friend like her. I was so happy to have her back in my life.

I walked out into the hallway, I looked over the banister at the nice lady sitting on the couch. I knocked on one of the doors and one of the guys opened up.
" oh hi, Katie right" he asked with a smile.
" yeah hi, I think the lady from earlier is ready for us." I said with a smile
"alright we will be down in a second. And by the way my name is Michael"
I knocked on the other guys door and Ethan answered.
" hey the lady from earlier is ready" I said
I walked downstairs and sat on the couch, they all came down and sat back in their original seats.

" so I'm going to take you all to the barn and show you what work needs to be done, basically the top priory tasks, Ethan you have a lot of work that needs to be done. Also we need two people to go in to town and get lots of feed, so whoever that is I will take them to the feed room to show you what they all get. But for right now we have three barns on the property, two of them are running okay, the third is completely ruined due to a storm we had two months ago. Now we bought this farm from the state who was going to send the animals to slaughter, luckily we took it over in the last hour and saved it." She smiled. We walked though a long barn "Now this is the main barn the second barn is the hay barn because we store our hay in the loft there, and the third barn we don't have a name for" Lilly said with a giggle. She stopped walking and we all gathered around her.
"Now I love that you young people are so dedicated but we ask no horse play because this is a job and I hope that you all are excited" she said with open arms. "As you all also know me and Tom" she said gesturing to an older gentleman who has been with the group but hasn't said anything "we live down in Florida so we aren't here to manage any of this. Please be respectful for the property and we wish you all the best of luck" she smiled. I wish I was about to be this rich to hire a whole team of people to run a huge farm. "now  I'm going to go show Drew and Michael the third barn so they can start having a look at it. And I should let you know, that some of the animals we aren't able to get, they haven't been handled and are basically wild. So we have to really get working on handling them so that Ethan can get started on their feet."
After the walk through we all dispersed, I went into the feed room and made a note of all the feeds that was in there so that I could have a shopping list. I then went out to see a couple of the fields and looked at the animals we have here. I walked back into the barn and found Lilly.
" so here's the company card that will cover the cost of everything you will need to run this farm. But the card should only be used for the animals and the property" she said with a smile "and take Drew with you so you can get lumber he should be with Tom at the third barn" she said pointing towards a half fallen barn.
