"Jasper?" she called. She warily walked through the forest. She eventually caught sight of him. Her best friend was a few feet away.
"Jasper!"
"Emmelene!"
Emmelene began to run towards the bear, who was beginning to age. She slowed as she approached Jasper, who no was no longer startled by the approaching girl. He nuzzled her hand, their special greeting.
"I was beginning to think you wouldn't come!"
"I would never miss a day with you Jasper, only if it was something extremely important."
"I know," the bear said as he let out a low chuckle.
Emmelene knew that her days with Jasper had begun to run short, so she wanted to spend every second possible with him. They were both 17, and brown bears only live to be 20 to 25 years old. It was very unfortunate. She hung out all day with her long-time best friend. They had been friends ever since a backyard barbeque when they were both 5. Of course, Jasper was already considered an adult bear at five, but proceeded to interact with Emmelene. Emmelene had discovered her gift at a young age –she could understand animals, and animals could understand her perfect English. She enjoyed every millisecond with her best friend. She could tell him everything. Plus, his hugs were the best! Every time Emmelene felt upset, she knew she could count on Jasper to cheer her up. Every time she felt happy, she knew she could count on Jasper to share her joy.
Emmelene had shown up to see Jasper everyday afterschool since she was in 6th grade. When she went to leave, she always told Jasper the same thing.
"See you tomorrow!" That was Tuesday.
