I was never supposed to be dragged into going to that stupid motorcycle race, my momma even told me that I was bound to get hurt. Oh boy, was she right, but if I had to do it all over again, I still would have gone. You see, when you get opportunities to go out and do something new, you should always say yes, for you never know what will come when you do.
The final bell on Friday afternoon had finally rung, everyone was going to their small, blue lockers. When I finished getting my stuff and closed my locker, someone was standing behind me. The figure made me jump, then I finally realized it was just my friend, Iris.
"Finally the torture is over for two months!" she exasperated, "I thought it would never end."
"You and me both. What are we doing tonight?" I asked.
"I heard that there was a race down by the old warehouse. You know, that old barn that got shut down because the owner was secretly breeding fight dogs?"
"Let me guess, you heard that from Jenny?" Jenny Larson was the school bad girl, no matter where she was she always caused trouble. I did my best to stay away from her, I still wanted to go to college without a criminal record.
"Maybe... But you gotta quit bein' such a wuss all the time, " she whined.
"You know my momma would never allow me to go and neither should yours." I honestly was a goody two shoes and I probably still would be had Iris not convinced me to go.
"That's why you tell your mom a little white lie. You are still going out, just a little farther than you told them."
"No." I stated pointedly.
"Please, please, please, please," she continually begged. I started walking out of the school while she followed, still pleading me to go with her. It wasn't until I was two blocks from my house that I gave in to her incessant begging.
"Fine! I'll go, but you have to drive me to and fro, AND you have to be the one to tell my mom wherever we are pretending to go. Deal?" I asked.
"Woo-Hoo!," she exclaimed. "I will come pick you up at seven on the dot." She ran off in the direction of her house and I continued to my house.
When I got home, my momma was still at work so I had plenty of time to get ready. Only thing is, I don't know what you're supposed to wear to a race. Do girls just wear skimpy clothing and a leather jackets like in the movies? Or are you supposed to wear something you would wear to a football game? Even if you do, I wouldn't know what to wear to a game either. I really need to get out of the house more...
I planned to just wear some jean shorts with a blue button down shirt (A/N: There should be a picture somewhere on this page...). I wore my combat boots seeing as they were the only pair of shoes I allowed to get dirty.
When it was 6:55, Iris pulled up to my house. Iris knocked on the door and my mom opened it.
"What a surprise! I didn't know you were coming today, Iris. I hope you aren't going anywhere dangerous," my mother said, puzzled. Oh crap!!! I forgot to tell my mom I was going out tonight.
"Oh yeah, it was kind of a last minute thing. You see, my cousin came up for her birthday. Since she doesn't know anyone from here, I thought it would best if Kati came with me," Iris said, falsely clearing my mother's suspicion.
It took an hour, but when we finally got to the motorcycle meet I was enthralled. There were motorcycles lined up side by side for what seemed like a mile. The bikers couldn't get any hotter, but the girls there were trashier than the girls who worked at Fanny Heaven down the street. I could've cared less about all the snide looks from half naked women because I felt like I was in a dream. Never would I have thought that the little goody-two shoes that I am would actually attend a real drag race with motorcycles.
I finally snapped out of my daze of unbelief when Iris pulled me aside to say, "Do you see that hot hunk of meat by the Ninja?" (the Ninja 1400 is supposedly according to the internet a really good drag racing bike)
"Why must you refer to the opposite gender using such derogatory foods?" I reply. I did look towards that guy though and usually I wouldn't have bothered with him, but, damn, his black hair set against those bright blue eyes. His hair was totally dyed to the max and his porcelain skin was paler than a vampire's, but he made the whole thing work. I would just kill to rip that sleek leather jacket and tank top off. Maybe even the pants too, to top it all off.
"And I thought I would never see the day," Iris snidely remarked..
As I snapped out of my egregious staring, "Huh, what day could you possibly be talking about?" As if it wasn't completely obvious, but I will always play the dumb fool in hopes that I will never be caught.
"Anybody could see you flat out gazing into his soul from a mile away. I'm surprised that you're actually straight seeing as you never care about the boys in our school." That's the problem though, not a single guy at our high school could compare to this aesthetic elf. Don't judge me, I have a thing for Thranduil of the Lord of the Rings franchise. "But its too bad because I saw him first."
"Oh come on, Iris," I supplicated. "When have I ever pulled a finders keepers on you?"
"Never... but that's just because you never say dibs fast enough."
"You mean, I never say it at all!"
"Well... yeah... but don't worry there is plenty of fish in the sea for you!" I shake my head, but I'd rather not keep fighting against her nonsensical crap. I look up just to see dream boy take off for the starting line.
"Sorry to bust your bubble, Iris, but I think your new love interest is gettin' away so you'll just have to tough it with little ol' me," She gives me the stink eye as she ushers me to the makeshift railings to watch the race.
It starts off like any other race in a movie, an almost nude skank holds up the checkered flag while the boys rev their motorcycles. As miss skanky throws down her arms, the motorcycles took off in a billow of dust. The weird thing was that dreamboat lover boy's motorcycle gave off a luminous green light as the machine revved to life. He also was close to literally flying right past the crowd and his opponent. Plus, his skin looked like a translucent, incandescent blue. I had yet to learn that these little details would unlock a ridiculously large number of trials to come.
