The Sun was setting on the orange sky as its light rays fell on the Ganges river. Kolkata was quiet, as if absorbed in the beauty of the mighty river letting the Sun set in its waters. The water was shimmering as a lone boat with a two fishermen in it sat on the bank of the Dakhineshwar watching the beautiful colours of the sky.
Shaurya was seeing it too. His light blue eyes were on the sparkles on the water that came as the lights near the Hoogly bridge fell on them. His mind was in solitude as his posture was relaxed. He eased back into the chair, utterly and fully spent out.
The sound of the dhak had stopped reaching his ears and it left him oddly bored. Kolkata was in heights. The city of lights was now made more bright by the Bangali's greatest festival, the Durga Puja. As Shaurya saw the small boy along with his father taking a dip in the river, he felt oddly relaxed.
Shaurya Goenka would be what someone would be the " dream of all men". He had everything that any guy would kill to have in his life. Money, looks and girls in bed every night. His good looks and his family name was enough to make girls spread their legs.
Shaurya sighed. An hour ago he had made passionate love with Avantika, an ex- girlfriend. Yes ex. Shrauya nver had sex with the same girl twice. That was his own personal rule. No one had the charm to lure the famous and notorious son of Rajnath Goenka to bed twice. No one.
Shrauya looked at his diamond studded Titan watch. He frowned as he watched the Sun set on the waters of the Ganges. " Where is Rishi?"
The sound of sneakers hiting the floor made Shrauya turn back. Rishi came with Karan in tow, holding a black suitcase in his hands. Rishi was Shrauya's best friend. Also the guy who betted against Shrauya everytime his eyes would land on a girl, better to say, his next victim.
" Why so sad Rishi?" Shrauya asked, his handsome face portraying a smirk.
Rishi snorted as Shrauya's smirk grew wider.
" You said you would show us the video." Rishi said as Karan reluctantly nodded his head.
" Well I guess the tape is enough proof that I have banged the Commissioner's daughter...hard."
All three of them laughed while Rishi's was a little forced. He knew that he was loosing money to Shrauya so there was no need to be laughing at his friends's games.
" Jai Ho Guru." ( You are the best.) Karan saluted Shrauya. There was not a woman that had said no to him.
Rishi sighed before begrudingly handing Shrauya the suitcase. Shrauya smiled taking it before placing it on the chair and opening it. Inside was money. A huge lot of money.
" Full 20 lakhs." ( 2 million rupees. Rupee is the Indian currency.)
" Hmm." Shrauya said absentmindly before shuttung the suitcase. He stood up, his tight T shirt portraying the perfect set of muscles that laid underneath. He took the suitcase in his hands, faced the mighty river as he swinged his left hand and threw the suitcase in the river.
" WHAT THE HELL?!" Rishi shouted his dark brown eyes wide in disbelief as he saw Shrauya throw the money in the water.
Shrauya turned to them. He was smiling widely. " What happened Rishi? Didn't you give the money to me? Was it not mine to decide what to do?"
Rishi reluctantly nodded his head.
" SO WHO ARE YOU TO SHOUT WHEN I THROW MY MONEY IN TO THE WATER?" Shrauya yelled, his face dark with fury. Rishi gulped. Shraurya rarely showed his anger, and if he did it was not good.
" No one." He said still fearing his friend's wrath.
Shraurya smiled. That was exactly what he wanted Rishi to say. It would be good to remind his friend his place sometimes. Rishi tends to forget that he was a friend to Shraurya Goenka, the Shraurya Goenka and that Rishi was just a time pass to Shraurya. he would have gotten rid of him if it hadn't been for Rishi's habbit of challenging Shraurya. Shraurya likes to be challenged and then to win.
As Rishi stood in one corner of the yatch waiting for his friend to lash out again, Shraurya stood facing the river and the small twinkling lights that had now come out in the sky. He was bored, with his life. This constant betting and girls spreading their legs open for him had left him unsatisfied and his friends knew it too. His mother was satisfied as long as her precious son was out of jail and as for his dad, he didn't know what he wanted for himself. One thing about his father was that he would do anything his wife wanted him to do.
Karan awkwardly patted Rishi's shoulder. " You need a good chase bro."
" Hmmm. I do." Shraurya said pouring himself a glass of wine.
" Like Nitya." Karan said absentmindly. There was a crack as the glass in Shrauya's hand broke into pieces. Karan gulped as he knew he had put oil in the fire.
" What did you say Karan?" Shrauya's face was dark with anger as his eyes were cold. His voice deep and patient, made chills run Down his friends spine.
" No-Nothing." He said, cursing his own fate. What was the need to blurt out Shrauys's past?
" Say it again." Shrauya started advancing towards his friend as Rishi moved to the left.
" Shrauya listen I didn't mean to..."
" Say it again you motherfucker!" Shrauya charged towards Karan with his fist raised just when his cellphone rang.
Shrauya paused, his fist a few inches from Karan's nose.
His cellphone kept on blaring a tune that Shrauya himself had created. He sighed leaning back from karan who graciously stepped back.
Shrauya picked up his i-phone. He sighed before pressing the call button.
"yes mom."
" Shrauya where are you"
"Nowhere far yet, why?"
Shakshi Goenka sighed at the end of the line.
" Do you know what day it is?"
" No what?"
" Its Panchami! And do you know what our family does on this day?" ( The first day of the Durga Puja.)
" The bhog!" Shaurya slapped his hand on his forehead. How could he forget?
" I expect you to be at home by ten minutes whereever you are." And with that Shaurya cut off the call and threw the phone on the armmchair. How could he have forgotten about the bhog?
" What happened Shaurya?" Karan hesitantly put his hand on his friend's shoulder. " Is everything alright?"
But he had to withdraw his hands when Shaurya glared at him.
He shived his phone in his pocket before walking out, his friends trudging behind him.
