I woke up to the loud laughter of the seven boys around me. I slowly opened one eye to see what they were laughing at. I was more than slightly worried that Luke had pulled a prank on me but luckily they were giggling over something that happened in the movie that I had accidently fallen asleep through. I didn’t mean to but Victors’ lap was cosy. I rubbed at my eyes, sitting up and yawning. Victor chuckled softly under his breath at me whilst brushing a lock of my hair behind my ear. “Sleep well princess?” he asked. “Mm,hmm” I mumbled as I looked around at all the boys who’s attention was now directed solely on me. I knew I was blushing even though I didn’t have a reason to. I guess I still wasn’t used to having so many people paying attention to me. North sat on my left with Kota on my right, the rest of the boys sat on the floor in front of me. Gabe was coddling my foot whilst watching me with his playful bright blue eyes. My stomach growled loud enough for everyone to hear. My face grew even redder and I hid my cheek with my hand pressed against it. That made all the boys smiles turn into giant grins.
“You’re speaking my language Peanut.” Said Nathan with a small smile playing at his lips and patting at it his well-defined stomach.
“North, Silas help me cook something for dinner?” Said Victor. They both nodded their heads. Victor stood up and deposited me on to Kota’s lap were I snuggled into his collarbone. He was so warm that I almost fell asleep again and didn’t notice the three boys leave the room.
“Oy trouble did you like the movie?” teased Gabe. I forced my eyes open again and gave him a small sleepy smirk. I had fallen asleep before the introduction had even finished. Kota started massaging the back of my head with his lean fingers whilst cradling me against his body. I started to drift off again when I thought I heard the sound of keys rattling in the door .But the boys were talking again and Victor, North and Silas were banging pots around in the kitchen so I shook it off as being tired. After a couple more seconds I heard it again. Definitely keys rattling, someone was unlocking the front door. But Marie was having a sleepover at Danielle’s house. Did she forget something? She wouldn’t be bothered to come and collect anything especially when she knew we would be here. So who could it be? I looked around at the boys but they were still talking and didn’t seem to notice.
“Guys,” I said softly. Kota turned to look at me whilst the others continued talking.
“What’s wrong sweetie?” Kota said as he could tell that I was anxious. It was written all over my face.
“Nothing” I muttered. “Guys!” I said louder. They all halted their conversations to look at me. I pressed my finger lightly against my lips to indicate they should be quiet.
“Sang!” A hoarse, male voice called. I recognised it but couldn’t put a face to the sound. I blamed it on my sleepy brain. Everyone’s head swivelled to look at each other’s and for once I understood the silent communication they shared. They were all as bewildered as I was.
“Who could it be?” Kota asked me quietly, his brows creasing and his body tense. I just shrugged my shoulders helplessly and gave him a look that said I have no idea.
A man walked into the living room looking around at us all with critical eyes. He was tall, lanky and had curly dark hair and high cheek bones. His posture sagged and he had bags under his eyes. He put a large leather briefcase by the side of the door and lent it against the wall. It was my father. The boys had only met him once and hadn’t been able to recognise his voice. But it was obvious they hadn’t forgotten his face. All the boys tensed up around me and I didn’t have to turn around to know they were doing more of the silent communication over my head.
My heart stopped. Why was he here? Was my mum coming as well? Was Marie’s mum coming back? It was hard to break old habits. My hand fluttered to the base of my throat and I leapt up off of Kota’s lap. It was bad enough all of the boys were sitting in the room. It was even worse that I was sitting on a boys lap. I just gave proof that my step-mothers accusations were true.
