A New Life Begins

Chapter 5: A Miracle

Mulder woke up to Scullys muffled whimpering, confused and alarmed he quickly rushed to her aid.

"Scully?? Whats wrong? Why are you crying?" He cupped her head in his hands, looking into her teary eyes, his own eyes wide with fear. He brushed her messy hair out of her face, gently kissing her cheeks and nose. He sat up and pulled her close to him, sitting on his lap. She kept her swollen eyes low and averted. "What do I say?..." Scully felt anxiety rising in her chest, choking her.

"Mulder... today... I woke up with massive pain in my stomach..." She whimpered, a tear falling from her eye. He brought a thumb up to her eye, softly wiping away the tears. He gazed into her eyes with concern. She took his hand in hers, squeezing it tightly.

"I got sick and vomited quite a lot... my head was throbbing. As it happened, I started to have suspicions of what was happening, though I can't grasp how it is even possible. I went to the drugstore down the street and bought a.... pregnancy test." She finally looked up into his eyes, her own pleading for comfort in the fear she was experiencing. Mulder looked back into her eyes, his wide with confusion and a long for reason.

"How could that happen?? I sat with you as you were deemed infertile? Maybe the test is wrong."

"No Mulder, I bought the clinically proven most accurate test. And it adds up, a few weeks ago we did have unprotected sex... it would all add up. Just, I wouldn't ever expect it with my body." Mulder gently ran a hand through her hair, his other hand rubbing small circles on her temple, trying to calm her. She started to bury her head in his chest, hugging him tightly.

"Oh Mulder, its not that I don't want a baby. God, I want a baby more than anything in the world. Ever since I was young, I longed to be a mother. It's just that I don't know how we are going to support a child. We don't make enough... and the job, its so dangerous, how would we guarantee we will always be there for our child. It all just worries me. All I want is the very best for our baby, I need to be able to give that. My worry is that I won't be able to." Mulder cradled her, placing little kisses all over her face, like he did when they first started dating. Scully smiled a little through her tears, looking up into his eyes.

"Scully... from the moment I met you, there was something in you that differed from the rest. You are the strongest willed person I know. You will go to the ends of the earth for the people you love. I do not doubt this strength one bit. We will make this work, we will follow our dream. Can't you see, darling? This is fate. We were made to have this child. This is the universe telling us that there are miracles for those who deserve them. I will make sure you and that baby have the greatest damn life anyone could hope for, it is my duty to you and our child. I love you so much, you are my life, my light, my everything. Don't worry, babe, we can do this. This is an answer to our prayers, this is what we have always wanted. It is our time to follow our dreams." Mulder nuzzled Scully's nose with his, taking her lips into a deep kiss. He slowly released and whispered into her lips, "I love you.", smiling a soft smile.

Scully felt truly touched by Mulder's words. It really was the truth. For years, she had prayed and prayed for a child, her and Mulder had tried multiple times with no avail. But now they finally had what they had wished for all of those dark nights when they thought the world was against them. Scully could never hope for anything better. She had the love of her life, by her side, there for her until the end, and now she would finally have it, a family of her own.

"Mulder, you are right. This is a miracle. This is all we have ever wanted. I'm so thankful for this, we finally have a family of our own. A miracle of love. I can't believe my eyes. We have tried for this for so long, god has finally granted us what we have always longed for deep in our hearts. Finally we can follow our dreams. Mulder, I love you so much." She smiled with joy, pushing her worries aside. Those were irrational, with Mulder by her side, they could conquer anything. She leaned up and kissed him, causing him to fall back onto the bed. She deepened the kiss, smiling into it. Mulder kissed back, smiling too, tears in his eyes. This was truly the greatest day of his life so far, there were many more to come.

Scully slowly released and kissed Mulder's chin, looking up into his eyes, her arms folded behind his neck. She lay on his chest, listening to his steady breathing and his heart pounding away in his chest.

"Mulder..." Scully trailed out, after a long silence.

"What is it babe?" He perked up. Scully crawled upwards so she could be level with him, and kissed him sweetly.

"You are going to be the best dad in the world..." She beamed. Mulder smiled back at her, taking her into a deep embrace. He smiled at the thought of holding his very own child, and sighed a happy sigh. "I sure will try. I can't wait honey, its gonna be great."

"It sure is, Mulder. It sure is." Scully smiled and closed her eyes. The couple then drifted off into a comfortable sleep, they wouldn't be going into work today.
