Run. I had to run. For some reason though, my body did not comply. I just sat there like a lump on the sidewalk. The sky was turning dark and there was no one around to hear me scream. It was as if my life had turned into some horror movie. I, however, was not going to be the chick that gets murdered because she is too stupid to bolt from her impending death. Shooting to my feet, I sprinted at top speed down the street towards my house. I couldn't even bear to look back and see if it was following me. I almost tripped a few times, when the pavement got uneven, but I managed to regain my footing. I couldn't even think, I just ran.
It's coming for me.
Pumping my legs faster and faster I headed towards the nearest public place, which was a small house party down the block. Drunk college kids crowded the inside of the one-story building and it was a struggle to push through them all. Finding myself in the middle of the room I whipped around when someone touched my shoulder. The hand that I slapped away belonged to a college guy that used to go to our school. He looked shocked at my outburst but I was too preoccupied to care. I searched every inch of the room and found myself glancing out a small window. He was there.
"This isn't happening," I muttered as my breath halted in my lungs.
Once again I pushed my way through the crowd and kept throwing looks over my shoulder to make sure I wasn't being followed. There was no face under the hood, just shadows. I had no idea who or what was underneath the cloak, but I was not in the mood to find out. Each person I passed gave me a dirty look as I elbowed them, but kept on dancing like nothing was happening. The guy that touched my shoulder stood in front of the only exit that I could find.
"Lux, I think you've had a little too much to drink. I don't know who invited you, but you shouldn't be here," he stated with a small smirk.
"Just get out of my way Jeremy. Seriously, I need to get out of here. I think someone is following me and I need to leave. Now."
I was passed caring what he thought of me. I plowed into him with all the force I could muster and made it through the back door. The trees of the backyard cast spooky shadows over the slick grass and it took all of my courage to start running back into the darkness. All I had to do was get home, then I would be safe. My luck had run out though and I slipped on the wet ground. Falling onto my stomach, I flipped around and tried to quickly regain my footing. He was there though. Right in front of me. The man of my dreams was nothing like what others may imagine. He was not a dream. He was a cloaked nightmare.
"Get away from me!" I shouted, hoping that someone would hear me over the loud music inside.
"Do not worry young child. I am only here to do what is right and fix what is wrong. You have been lied to Lux. Turn back the clock and you will see your true history as well as your true destiny," the thing whispered. I could not tell if it was a man or a woman, it was only a raspy voice.
"Stay the hell away from me!"
With that, I turned and sprinted to the fence that separated this yard from the next. Vaulting over its height was not a problem and I easily got over. Careful not to slip again, I went around the house and back onto the street as quick as I could. I needed to get home, and fast. Rushing as fast as I could, I made it onto my street. The small house came into view and I gasped with relief. Sliding a little on the slightly moist grass, I dashed to the door, slamming it shut behind me. Miles was nowhere in sight and I yelled for him. Rushing from his bedroom, a panicked look in his eyes, he came to me.
"What's wrong? What happened?" His voice was shaky with alarm.
"Close the blinds, there's something out there!"
