JC was bored. Not unusual for the end of the school year. But she mostly found her mind going back six months to the worst yet the best time of her life.
Oh, she got caught like most vandals. At fourteen, she'd been sentenced to community service instead of juvy. But the old bat she was assigned to play assistant to was loopy. The woman found missing persons by instinct rather than legwork. Their first case together was scary-cool. Or cool-scary depending on which day JC remembered.
Lately life was just boring. Nothing happened except school and home. There was a bit of typing and filing for the old bat, but JC was afraid her mind was turning to mush. And the heat didn't help.
