Footsteps. The soft patter of sneakers on the grass shattered my calm posterior like glass, and I emitted a sharp gasp. The Silent are as their name suggests; silent. No words are needed, they hunt as an elite team of killers. Their emotions wiped from their brains, no guilt nor remorse, capable of tearing a child apart without so much as a tinge of regret. Knowing this, I know I cannot stay here any longer.

I crawl out if the bush on all fours, cautious, as one should be in this situation. The Silent have been long gone, but you can never be too sure. With as much haste as a scalded cat, i dashed to the entrance to the village nearby. Now in the light of the lamps, I could feel safe at last. I strolled over to the inn to have a bed for the night.

The door slams shut, lock flicked. My heavy body collapses onto the bed, then I undress and throw my clothes into a pile by the wall. I wrap myself up in the cotton blanket and curl into a ball. As my eyelids close, I drift into my dreams. My sleep however, is plagued with images of the Silent.

Author note~~\_(^-^)_/~~ I moved chapter two into chapter one of my story so that there was a roughly equal size of chapters - so chapter two:

I wake up to the sun pouring into my room. I hadn't drawn the curtains last night; I was too tired. Dressed in my boxers, I stood at the window, gazing at the village lying before me. I threw on jeans, a shirt and my sheath. The glowing device on my wrist displayed how much I had overslept. 12:17. Leaving my room, I went to the bar dowmstairs, and got a lemonade. Its tangy acidity bubbled in my throat. Way too early for my body.

The boar's head toppled off its body, tinged black due to my lazorblade named Itami. I cut the tusks off to sell, and load the meat into a container to cook it later. A change in wind pushes a scent towards my nostrils. Someone is watching me. My left hand discreetly reaches for my rifle on my back. I spin, drawing the gun and pointing it directly to the tree where the odour emitted.
"Out." I demanded.
A head of navy blue hair emerged from the leaves. The curls bounced off of her cheeks and ears, her freckles specked her small face. I slowly lowered my rifle, she then sprinted straight for me.

A little taken aback, my reaction was slowed for a second. A second was all she needed. My rifle was knocked to the floor, as was my Itami. She pushed her arm against my throat, so i grabbed it and easily tore it away, I pushed her to the ground in an armlock.
"Not going to attack anymore?" I asked awkwardly.
"F-fine," She mumbled "B-but only because i wanted to, n-not because you told me to!" I took a moment to inspect her weapons. A bow, quiver, double edged knife and a backpack. No use of technology whatsoever. As we headed towards the village, i started to ponder. Who was this girl? Why was she really watching me?
