she's gotten used to that empty, desolate aura that surrounds him while he's asleep at night. running her fingers through his dark hair, her eyes skim against his fragile figure. she can still taste him on her lips - ghostly traces of yesterday's liquor transfused into a sea of tears.
she cups his cheek with one hand, leaning in to lay a tender kiss against the boy's pale, icy skin. the hazy pitter-patter of rain against the windows is what lulls them both to sleep after a while. the girl shifts in her slumber, inching impossibly closer to the male right beside her. his heart's going a mile a minute, the nightmares chasing him even as he dozes off.
the dream-catcher she bought hangs right above the two. amidst the peace, a deafening strike of lightning cuts through the air. she's the first to stir awake, eyes widening as she clings tightly onto his shirt. a low, barely-audible murmur leaves his lips. he'll never know how much of an impact his soothing voice has on her, though. he blinks the last traces of sleep away, eyes connecting immediately with the girl's.
nothing else can be said before she quickly presses her lips against his. he lets out a soft sigh in-between the kiss, intertwining their fingers together while the thunder starts echoing through the city. the meaning that she passes through her lips is crystal clear.
please don't leave me.
now he's smiling softly, pulling away just to press his forehead against hers, tugging her closer into his arms.
i'll always be here, his eyes reply.
