Freedom Bound

Across the brilliant universe
And on a distant star,
A tiny person lived
Who was known
In our world by no one.
She was ensnared within
A curious, dreadful trap
That someone, sometime,
Had left there
In the name of Modern Science.
This invention aimed
To apprehend Life
If existing, as they hoped,
Remote from their own planet,
To develop understanding,
Furthering liberty.
But what nobody knew
(Because nobody had
Returned to gather and to study
Data as was planned),
Was that in this,
Their lofty goal,
To better live in freedom,
Their device to another creature
Denied her liberty.
