"Really?" I ask Cooper.
"One hundred percent fact." He replies laughing. I sit in his car, and watch the windscreen wipers go to and fro, again and again. It's always bugged me how they don't quite reach the corners. Suddenly, I'm confused. Why, if Cooper has a car, did he get the bus yesterday? "What's the constipated face for?" My head whips around to Cooper in the driving seat.
"Why did you get the bus yesterday when you have a car?" I question.
"It was in for service." Oh, well. Not as interesting as I'd hoped. I nod silently and he heads in the direction of my house. "Hey can I have your number?" He asks handing me his iPhone from his pocket. I open the phone that has no passcode and enter myself into his contacts as a humble 'Maya the Great'. I'd told him to go to Mrs Rhodes address and I'd walk from there but, he shrugged it off and said he'd drive me from Mrs Rhodes house and then home too. We pull up on the pavement outside of a beautifully gardened house and I hop out and walk up the drive. Pressing the doorbell, I'm silently praying everything was okay with Alfie. After a few seconds, Mrs Rhodes appears at the door with Alfie, head down, but smiling.
"Thank you so much Lisa." I hold Alfie's not casted hand and pull him close to me. "Hey Alf." No reply.
"That's alright Maya. He was a little angel. Didn't make a noise and sat watching some documentary about Spitfire planes." I smile. I thank her once again and walk back to the car. Upon, opening the door I announced to Cooper, "Cooper this is Alfie, my little brother."
"Hi there mate. What've you done to your arm?" No reply. Cooper looks confused and scrunches his eyebrows so I subtly shake my head and sit Alfie down in the backseat. Surprisingly, the footwell was spotless. I put Alfie's seatbelt on and sit back down in the front and tell Cooper the address again to which he insists that he remembers it. We pull up on the driveway of my house and I quickly open my door, and help Alfie out. I wave to Cooper after thanking him once again, and then I let us into the house. Alfie sprints up the stairs and I check the dinner plan.
At 9pm, a message pops up on my phone from an unknown number. 'Hey Stranger.' Oh My God. I have officially got a stalker. A few minutes later another message pops up and I'm slightly concerned by this point. I open the pending message and breathe a sigh of relief. 'It's Cooper x'. I reply back with a simple 'hey Cooper'. I was deliberating on whether to put a kiss or not. In the end I didn't, despite the fact he did.
Cooper and I texted for a while and then I called him and we talked for a while too before I had to do my English homework. I told Cooper this and he laughed and shouted to his brother, "Hey Mason!" I could hear some sort of reply to this. "Maya has to leave me alone because of you!" I could now clearly hear Mason, or Mr Brady should I say.
"What?" Mason says clearly tired and confused.
"Maya Anker in your year 11 class has to leave me for English homework." I stay silent. This is pretty awkward on my end.
"Oh! Hello Maya. You do realise that homework is in for tomorrow." Mason finally speaks.
"Hi Sir and yes..." I hate this. I can distinctly hear Cooper laughing at this awful interaction. After a few more minutes, we end call it and I look at my English homework and sigh. It's going to be a long night. I'd completely forgotten that I needed to write an essay by tomorrow. I may have to pull an all-nighter.
It's 8am and I'm slowly walking into the school. I was right. I didn't get to sleep until 4, and then I had to wake up at 6:30. To say I look like a walking zombie is an understatement. I slump into my form room and lie my head on the desk. Taking off my blazer to use it as a pillow, I am very close to sleeping when the bell rings and the people in my form, of whom I know none, walk in. Some looking as close to death as myself. I prop my head on my hand and my eyes start to close again. To my right, I hear someone putting their bag on the floor and practically dropping onto the seat beside me. I open my eyes to a wide-awake blonde haired girl who at this time in the morning I have no interest with conversing with. She has other ideas. "Hi Maya!" I open my eyes wide enough to recognise her as the girl who turned around in English yesterday. I'm searching my head for her name but nothing seems to be arriving. She seems to notice this and smiles before saying "Alyssa Clark." I nod and close my eyes again. My subconscious begins to scold me for being rude so I prise open my eyes and reply
"I'm sorry, I'm so tired. I stayed up all night doing that essay for English." She nods and laughs.
"Me too.." I look as closely as I can at her perfect hair and flawless make up. If she was up all night too, how does she look so good when I could barely be bothered to get dressed this morning?
