That morning when Gajeel was getting up, he was in the bathroom brushing his teeth, which for some reason seemed to have gotten a lot bigger and sharper, Panther Lily, flew into the bathroom and asked, “How’s it been going with you trying to win Levy back?”
“I guess, it’s been going well.” He mumbled once he finished brushing his fangs.
“Have you noticed anything different about yourself?” The exceed asked flying up towards him.
“No… Should I?”
“Look in the mirror,”
Gajeel looked in the mirror to see his whole body was covered in iron dragon scales, like they do when he’s fighting. He didn’t mean to use his magic. “Okay, what is going on?” he questioned as he turned the scales off.
“Yesterday, I came into your room while you were sleeping, and you almost looked like a dragon,”
Gajeel was baffled, clearly he would know if he turned into a dragon at night. Once he started thinking about everything, it all started to make sense, the fangs, the scales. “How could this happen?” he held his hands up, which replaced his fingers with talons.
Panther Lily suggested, “Perhaps, the Scientist who locked us up for 2 years,”
“He was interested in the fact that I was a Dragon Slayer.” Gajeel hummed.
“Didn’t we find out that if you use too much of your magic, you may turn into a dragon? Maybe that’s what’s happening. You’re turning into a dragon, Gajeel. I’m afraid, if you use any more of your magic, you may turn into a dragon forever.”
“Then how am I supposed to kill that bastard?” Gajeel asked blistering with anger.
Gajeel decided that no matter how hard it must be for him to be around Levy, he must continue to suffer. In order to show her what her life was like, when Gajeel was in it.
“What are you doing here, Mr. Redfox?” Gajeel could hear Levy’s voice creep up on him from behind where he was standing. He was staring at the tree, where Levy and him very first met.
“Huh?” he turned around to see the little pregnant mage looking up at the giant tree with mystery. “It’s nothing really,” he shook his head getting a little choked up once he turned back around to face the tree, and his back to Levy.
She walked behind him and grabbed his forearm, “Oh, come on, I know that’s not true. Why did you have to leave the other day? I like talking to you,”
Before Gajeel overreacted and wanted to push away from Levy he remembered all too well, what he promised himself. “You do? Why?” he tried to ask calmly.
“It’s different then talking to Laxus, all of our talks are very short and to the point, whereas with you, I feel like I can talk for hours, about anything,” she smiled. “So tell me, what is it that’s been bothering you?” Levy asked as she sat down on the ground in front of the tree.
Gajeel sat down next to her as he managed to somehow say what he was thinking, “I hurt somebody here,” he breathed, letting go almost felt therapeutic, “But I didn’t mean to,”
Levy grabbed onto his arm empathically, “I’m sure it wasn’t your fault, you’re a kind hearted person, Gajeel Redfox, I’m sure you didn’t mean to hurt anybody,”
“It just kills me every day, to think about all the pain I caused them, for no good reason,”
“This person…” Levy wondered, “Have they forgiven you?”
“More than I’ll ever be able to forgive myself,” he sighed. He knew for a fact that talking to Levy about feelings was a sure way to win her heart over without a doubt. Sure that is something Laxus definitely does not do.
“I’m sure whomever this person is that you hurt, forgave you for a good reason. And you should forgive yourself and not hold onto the past.”
“What if the past is all you know? And everything is different now, way different.”
“I guess you should find a way to live with it,” Levy answered as she started to get up. “I’ve got to go. Laxus will be waiting and I’ve made dinner,”
The Iron Dragon Slayer stood up after the Script Mage, he grabbed onto her arm stopping her, “Wait, I don’t want to lose you again. I need to tell you something,”
“Huh?” she turned around.
He looked into her soothing honey eyes, “It was you.”
“Excuse me?”
“You were the one. The one that I hurt on accident,”
“Gajeel, I don’t even remember meeting you before, three months ago. What are you talking about?” she starting backing away, escaping his grasp.
“Don’t you feel anything between us?”
Shaking her head and backing away, Levy knew all too well where this was going. “Gajeel, no, don’t do this. Not to yourself, or me, or Laxus or anybody. We are just friends.”
“Please Levy, listen to me, I love you,” he tried to walk closer to her but she kept on backing away.
She looked down as she could feel she was starting to cry, her throat tighten, eyes watery and her breathing started to increase. It may have been the hormones but this was the last thing Levy wanted to go through, “Oh, Gajeel, [(If only there was somebody out there who love you) (haha, no jk)] I’m so sorry, I have strong feelings for you too. But I love Laxus. Laxus has always been the one…. Maybe, if I had met you before,” she started to back away fearing what Gajeel’s reaction might be. “I’m so sorry,” she then fell apart, everything that she was holding together fell apart. Levy started to break down, but she was already walking away before Gajeel could even stop her.
“But you did,” Gajeel mumbled once she was out of earshot. “But you fucking did,” he started to get furious. He shot his arm into the tree turning his arm into iron, forgetting he shouldn’t use his magic anymore. The tree leaving a dent once his arm returned to him it had turned into an iron scaled dragon arm. He stared at it, despising the fact that this was all happening to him. Eventually the dragon arm effect wore off and he started to make his way home.
He knew she probably wouldn’t easily reciprocate his feelings. He has just going to have to try harder
