~ ...Beautiful Nightmare

I opened my eyes and instantly knew it was a dream.

No, a nightmare. I stopped having 'dreams' a long, long time ago. I guess it was just the lack of hope, my future feels like a black hole of nothingness. I don't know where I'm going, only where I came from and even that's not pretty.

So, looking around I noticed it was dark and very...

Quiet.

That was until I started walking. It took a while, but I started to make out a small light in the distance. Following the light, it felt like forever before I reached it. It was a small candle, a scentless white candle standing on a small and plain wooden table. It was the only light, but it still didn't give me any hints as to 'where' I was.

"Hello, Nass."

My heart rate quickened as I looked behind the candle, noticing there was someone behind it. But that's not what scared me, it was the voice. I recognised it so well.

The candle did nothing as to hint who it was and my first 'thought' was to run. But I couldn't. I couldn't move, I couldn't avert my gaze.

That was the beauty of nightmares.

Taking a deep breath, I watched as the figure gave out a small laugh. Not a heart warming laugh, no. An evil, shiver-down-your-spine laugh that would tell anyone to run.

"It's been... A very long time. I've always wanted to meet you personally, but never had the chance." The figure was slowly walking around the candle's table, step by agonizing step at a time towards me.

"You see, you're not alone..-" My eyes widened.

"..Because I've always been there."  The voice became more demonic as the person had continued on. It was a neutral voice, not female nor male.

The figure was finally in front of me. I couldn't stop shaking, shivering, trembling.

"Who-" I croaked and resorted to whispering. "Who are you?"

The strangers laugh echoed in the darkness, mixing with the whimper, unsure where it came from.

"That, my dear Nass will have to wait for another time. But I will give you a hint; I am-"

"Nass, Nass, wake up. Nass!"

I gasped and sat up, my head instantly throbbing from the sudden movement. Tears started to well up in my eyes, but I held them back.

Who was that?

Who was who?

The person from my- Wait, what?

"Nass, you need to calm down, it was only a dream. It wasn't real." A soothing voice was telling me, but I was too built up with my thoughts to process who it was.

It wasn't real? No.. It was real! But, it-

"Shhh, it's okay." It was only then I realised I had just whimpered out loud and was biting my bottom lip to the point that I was tasting blood.

I finally looked ahead of me.

Where was I?

"The infirmary, you fainted during art."

Did I say that out loud?

A chuckle came from beside me, which made me notice I was leaning on someone's shoulder. Someone.. was rubbing my arm soothingly, yet why didn't I notice?  I looked up to find a gorgeous set of green eyes watching me. It was Seth? Wait, I fainted during art?

The memories finally came back to me.

I sighed. I wanted to stay and be comforted but I didn't want to show weakness. I wanted him to know I'm not some sort of girl who needs a knight in shining armour. I can comfort myself or something, right? He smelled like mint and honey, it was kind of intoxicating. In a good way.

Wait, what was I think about earlier...?

"Hey, are you feeling better?"

His breath tickled my forehead and caused goosebumps to rise on my arms and legs. I looked up and met his eyes once more, noticing the worry in them and nodded my head slowly; absent-mindedly.

He chuckled and his breath tickled my face, making me realise how close we were.

I should move...But I was so comfortable. No, I'm going to move. Ugh, but he's so warm! Wait, since  when did I become so.. Teenage-likey? Girly?

Once I felt his forehead on mine, I moved back and leaned more towards the wall beside the infirmary bed.

"Sorry." I mumbled with my head tilted downwards, my fringe covering my face even more as I watched his reaction from behind the 'curtain'.

First it was hurt, sadness, then understanding. He reached as though to move my fringe out of the way, but seemed to have thought better about it and dropped his hand.

"Don't sweat it. I was kind of moving too fast anyhow." He chuckled awkwardly and gave me a grin. "But... We are friends, right?"

My breath caught in my throat as he said it. Friends. Could it really work? Wouldn't it hurt more afterwards? Last time... I don't think I could handle it. But, maybe a chance? Just because it happened once, doesn't mean it'll happen again right?

I found myself nodding.

Seth gave me a large, genuine smile and pulled me into a hug. Now, that caught me by surprise. I awkwardly hugged back and bit my bottom lip, trying not to smile. I shouldn't get too caught into this though, to save myself from being hurt.

"Friends hug, right?" Seth said happily, his face a little too close as he asked this.

"Ye-yeah." I replied, thankful that my fringe could cover my tinted cheeks when I lowered my head.

Maybe, just maybe.

Possibly.

Hopefully.

This could work out.
