Good Morning

It was a Saturday. My alarm went off at 8:30 AM, but I was already awake in the hotel bathroom, trying to get my winged eyeliner to match up. I could hear my friend Tosh yawning in the bedroom. My younger sister Kay was grumbling something under her breath.

"Hurry up and get dressed," I called out to them. "We got stuff to do."

Tosh shushed me. I giggled to myself as I heard her walk towards the bathroom. She peeked in and looked at my reflection. "How long have you been awake?"

"Since 7." I put down my eyeliner brush to examine the result. "I got too excited. I hardly slept at all."

Tosh's eyes narrowed as she watched me. I looked at her and laughed before telling her again to get dressed.

"Why are we up so early?" She groaned in protest.

"We promised Amy we'd meet up with them for breakfast, remember?" I ran my hands through my thick, curly brunette hair, trying to fluff it a little. "We're going to be late; we don't even know where we're going."

"We can just call an Uber." Kay yawned, followed by the sounds of her unzipping her suitcase.

I sighed, but I was too jittery.

Tosh and I (along with a third friend) had been running our own YouTube channel for about three years now, and in that time we got to meet one of our favorite YouTubers, Markiplier. We had made some collaborative videos together once or twice, but we never really got to hang out often because he was all the way out in California while we were stuck a country away.

This was a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing. Kay decided to tag along since our third friend Hannah wasn't able to make it--Kay had never been to California before, so she decided to take the chance when it presented itself.

"What time did they say they wanted to meet up?" Kay called.

I walked out of the bathroom with my camcorder in hand, dressed and ready to go. I pressed the record button and looked at Kay. "We are supposed to meet them in about an hour, but these two sleepyheads decided to sleep in."

Kay rolled her eyes at me and turned away from the camera. I focused on Tosh, who flinched. "Don't do that to me!"

I laughed. "Sorry," I closed the camcorder. "Well, you two better battle it out for the bathroom, then. We have less than an hour for you to get ready and for us to call an Uber to get there. I do not want to be late."

Tosh and Kay eyeballed each other before Kay grabbed a handful of clothing and ran to the bathroom. Tosh looked at me with wide eyes. I shrugged and pulled the camcorder back out. "Looks like you'll have to change out here, then."

Tosh put her hand up over the lens. "Not while you have that thing on!"

I turned the camera off and giggled. "Whatever, just get ready."

As she turned away from me, I pulled out my phone to see if Amy or Mark had tried to get a hold of us. I had one unread message from Mark from about ten minutes ago. With a smirk, I opened it to find a picture of him, Amy, and precious Chica all smooshed into the frame, making silly faces. I laughed and held out my phone to Tosh. "Look at this."

Tosh turned around and instantly smiled. "Aww, I love them so much!"

"Me too," I said as I went to respond. "Should we send a pic back?"

"Yeah, wait a sec," Tosh replied quickly as she put her t-shirt on. "Let me finish here."

I sat down on one of the two beds in the room, waiting for Tosh, staring at the picture Mark sent. The very thought that we were all friends completely blew me away, and it warmed my heart to think about. I smiled to myself.

"Okay, I'm good--let's do this," Tosh waved at me to get my phone ready. I jumped up and joined her side, holding up my phone.

"Say cheese!" I gave a goofy face and tapped the screen. Tosh was already laughing. I looked at the screen to see the image was a little blurry, but both of us were making faces. "That's a winner," I snorted, selecting to send the image to Mark. I looked back at Tosh to see she had the camcorder in her hands and it was recording. I waved. "Good morning!"

"Look who's been up since way-too-early this morning!" She teased, zooming in and out of my face.

Kay suddenly erupted from the bathroom, still in her pajamas. Her long blond hair was up in a messy bun and she had half a face of makeup on. "I grabbed the wrong clothes," she said as if we asked.

The camcorder was facing Kay. She glanced up at it, then at me. "Why?" Her tone seemed exasperated.

Tosh turned the camera off and chuckled to herself. "You're taking forever."

Kay sighed dramatically. "Sorry, it takes time to be this perfect." She made her exit back into the bathroom.

After another thirty minutes of waiting for those two to finish getting ready, I went ahead and called up an Uber to be ready for us in the next five minutes. I made sure the batteries for the camcorder were charged up, that our phones had full power, and that we had everything we needed for our day out in town before heading to the lobby.
