I was unaware of where we were. And completely ignorant as to where we were going. I didn't even know how long we'd been driving. My wrists burned, and my arms were numb —pulled behind my back in an uncomfortable position. My strongest senses were those that were unhindered —smell and hearing. I listened to the tires on the asphalt until the sound began to drive me a little crazy. Occasionally I would feel us make a turn, then we'd head straight again. I couldn't shake off the sleep that came calling every now and then. I'd wake to smell food and my own burning stomach would voice its complaints. When again I found myself drifting off, I found that I didn't have the energy to keep myself awake.

When the vehicle finally came to a stop, I still hadn't thought of a plan. Prayer was my only hope. The door by my head was opened and I was hauled out. My captor was not gentle. I struggled to regain my footing, my feet having gone to sleep during the long drive. I was pulled up by my shirt regardless and pushed forward. "Move," the voice commanded. From the weight and size of his hand I already knew it was my "handler". Annoyed that he kept on pushing me, I bared my teeth at him.

Someone snorted beside me. And pushed me again. I was led indoors —through what seemed to be a passageway— for when I stumbled, there was a nearby wall to catch me.

Eventually we stopped, and my handler gripped my collar to keep me still.

Muffled whispers drew my attention, their voices too quiet for me to decipher. It was during times like these that I really wished I had Wolfe traits —Wolfe hearing would be very useful right about now.

My mouth stiff with disuse, I couldn't resist flexing it. "So while you chat, maybe one of these guys can untie me." My voice sounded gravelly and hoarse. The screaming had taken a toll.

Silence followed my words. Being mouthy wasn't exactly wise. But I had no idea where I was or who I was with. Or what they intended to do with me. I needed some answers and goading them into responding seemed a good way to get them for now.

If there was one thing I was sure of, it was that I had a killer headache —again. Bearing the pain, I crossed my fingers hoping that I was far, far away from Lost Moon.

The weight of the hand on my collar disappeared just before the blindfold was ripped off me. The fluorescent light was so bright it blinded me for a second. I squinted as black and purple dots riddled my vision and an acute pain slice through the center of my head. Cursing, I staggered back.

As opposed to the heavy hand I was used to, the feminine touch guiding me back and down onto a cot was surprising. She held my hands at the wrist, did something, and then the tension fell away. My arms relaxed and I groaned when I attempted to pull them in front of me. My shoulders were sore and I still couldn't feel my hands.

"Take a moment," an unfamiliar soothing voice said. She helped free my feet and I wondered what was happening.

"Kate?" She inquired.
