Keerthy's P.O.V.

"I.C.S. college? That's the best college in Chennai."

"Yes Sugandhi," my mom spoke proudly, "There's nothing that my husband and I did. It was all her efforts. She studied hard, and now got a scholarship there."

"Enough. Enogugh Ma. My efforts are nothing compared to your and Appa's support," I came out of my room and greeted the lady talking to Ma, "Vanakkam aunty."

"Hmmm...Vanakkam Vanakkam," she replied like talking to a child, "Where are you getting ready to go?"

"Kovil aunty. Then I'll leave," I took permission to leave and walked out of the house.

"Nice girl. I like her alot," I could hear Sugandhi aunty complimenting me.I just smiled to myself blushing a little and walked over to my friends waiting for me.

I'm Keerthy. And I'm turning twenty this year. I live in a village and before I was born, there was no hope for education here. All the men were farmers and they never dreamed about a life above that. My parents were the first to be educated in my village amd they, knowing the importance of education, started a school here.Beginning with only the two of them as teachers, now it has grown to 100 teachers and around 500 to 600 students study here. Appa being the principal and Ma being a teacher, no one has to tell me how much important education is. I see it through my parents' hardwork and efforts.

Ever since my childhood, I had interests in computers. I knew computer engineering was my thing. Now I've won a scholarship to the best college in one of the best cities. That's the best I have achieved so far, but still I've more to go. There's no limit to my dreams.

One week later...

I was standing at the railway station ready to board the Chennai train. I hugged my parents tightly.

"Be careful da." "Give a call after you reach your hostel."

I just nodded and without a word, got into the train and silently sat on my seat. My parents waved at me and I waved back with a weak smile. I leaned on my seat and began to think about how I have to adapt myself to city life. Surely as a girl who had never stepped into a city, I knew I had to face various challenges.
