No, this can't be, Amy Parker thought in terror. She stared at the lifeless body of Kathy James, her former best friend. She went missing 17 months and 6 days ago. Amy has been counting. Kathy was her only friend and the only person who truly understood her. Why is she here, in our school? Amy's shock was turning into anger. Was she murdered? Who would do this? Why her? Questions were spiraling in Amy's head. She felt lightheaded. Just then she heard footsteps moving towards her. She turned around and there was a slouched, shadowy figure in a dark mask walking toward her.

"Did you study for your test?"

Amy woke up in a cold sweat. She looked over at her phone. Kathy texted her telling her that another person was missing from town. She wasn't dead. She wasn't murdered by a creepy masked figure in her own school. Amy let out a sigh of relief as she got out of bed to get ready.
"Honey, what do you want to eat for breakfast?" Amy's mother called from downstairs.
"Toast," Amy called back.
"Do you want anything else?" Amy's mother called with a hint of concern.
Amy sighed. She didn't want everyone to know about her dream. It was just a dream, after all. Although it was very realistic.
Amy got dressed and headed downstairs to eat breakfast. She took her toast in one hand and her phone in the other. She didn't finish the English paper that was due today because she was absent and no one told her about it so she was finishing it up while she was eating breakfast. When she finished her toast she slipped her sneakers on, grabbed her bag and stormed off. Her brother was quick to follow. She was working on her paper and then Kathy sat next to her.
"Hi Amy, why didn't you answer my text?" Kathy asked in an aggravated tone.
"Hey Kat, I woke up late. I had to eat breakfast because my mom makes me," Amy answered while looking down at her lap.
"That's reasonable," Amy replied. "What are you doing?"
"I'm finishing my essay. I can't type 1000 in 30 minutes."
"Are you kidding me?" Kathy gasped. "That's why we had 2 weeks to work on it!"
"I know. No one told me."
"Ok, I have to finish my book that doesn't have anything to do with school."
Kathy was a weird kid. She was good at all subjects but she seems like the person that wouldn't. She's enthusiastic and energetic but Amy never saw her sit down and work on something. Maybe she just works a different way than Amy. Amy worked on the essay and finished about ¾ of the way to school.
First period was gym. Amy was on the level of a flower when it came to gym class, and to add insult to injury, everyone hated her. She wasn't good at teamwork so she was always yelled at for "never saying anything." She felt a gust of wind rush past her. It was Henry. He was a delinquent fool who didn't seem to care about school. He didn't seem to care about anything. Some people call him a nihilist but he does care about one thing, sports. It feels like his only purpose in life is to play sports. He's a taunting, menacing, idiot that's popular because other idiots like him because he's attractive. This school is full of idiots, Thought Amy cynically.
"Hey there spaghetti arms," mocked Henry, "or should I say, Ms. 'You'll never get anywhere in life if you don't use your brain'."
Amy rolled her eyes and walked away. She wasn't going to waste her time on morons. She was thinking of ideas for her new book. Amy and Kathy both like reading and creative writing. Kathy likes incorporating humorous elements into her writing while Amy is completely serious with her writing. They have different tastes in genres too. Reading brought them together and writing held them together. Gym wasn't anything special. Amy's class was on their hockey unite and, as per usual, she accidentally hit another kid in the shin with her hockey stick.
Fourth period Amy had science. Her teacher was Mr. Greene. He was strange. He was quiet and he kept to himself. He was strict and smart like almost every other teacher but there was something about him that was very unsettling for Amy. They learned about atoms, compounds and other things. Amy was quite interested in the lesson but Henry wasn't. The whole time he was chit-chatting with his buddies even though Mr. Greene told him numerous times not to. At the end of class he pulled Henry aside to talk to him about his grades. While I was packing up I overheard that Henry was failing and that he would have to do a lot of extra credit to get his grade up. Mr. Greene also said that if Henry didn't fix his grades he will have "No choice but to punish him severely," which sent shivers down Amy's spine. Henry was rolling his eyes and being extremely rude because he obviously didn't care. Amy didn't hear the rest of the conversation because she had to leave.
The rest of the day flew by fast. Just the usual math and English. Amy was supposed to stay after school for math extra help because she had an 86 average in math, and to her that was a bad grade, but then a wave of embarrassment rushed over her. There was a substitute in math and subs don't stay after school. It was too late to go home because the buses just left so she had to stay in the library but she didn't have anything to do for homework since she already finished everything so she decided to walk around and explore. She walked down the empty, echoed hallways, which seemed a lot bigger since there was no one there, and she pretended to be walking somewhere. She went to the ground floor and noticed voices at the end of the hallway. When she crept closer she peered around the corner to see Mr. Greene and Henry standing there. Mr. Greene was yelling while Henry was ignoring him. Mr. Greene was enraged. Henry kept ignoring him no matter what he said. Then Mr. Greene pulled out a long knife from his bag and held it up to Henry's neck.
"You're not going to get anywhere in life if you don't listen to anyone!" Hissed Mr. Greene.
Amy's nightmare was flooding back. Mr. Greene was the masked shadowy figure. Mr. Greene was the one who murdered her friend, and Henry was about to live the same faith. She wasn't going to let anyone get murdered no matter how much she didn't like them.
"Stop!" She jumped out and pushed Mr. Greene back and held him down. Henry ran to get help and got a teacher who called the police.
The rest of the day was a blur. Amy remembered Mr. Greene trying to explain that he was framed even though they had security footage showing that he was wrong. There were news reporters, police, and ambulances. They took Amy and Henry to the hospital and even though they weren't hurt they were still in shock.
Two weeks later life was was back to normal. Mr. Greene was arrested and charged for attempted murder and he'll never be teaching again. Amy finally got some respect among her classmates but she still felt guilty. If she only had told anyone about her dream. Something like this would have never happened. Well, I can't turn back time, thought Amy, I just have to learn from my mistakes and grow as person. That's all that matters.
