The first thing that Charlie said when they got home was "Ma, I'm worried about him." Well, technically they got back to the bar, but then and their Ma live above the bar.
"He does seem to be a cause for worry" Ma agrees. "Why don't you go help Terrence get ready for the night rush?"
Charlie knows full well that their Ma is just trying to take their mind off things by having them work with their crush.
"Alright Ma" but they agrees nonetheless. Who wouldn't want to spend more time with their crush if they could? The wink she sent their way makes Charlie blush as they turn around to leave.
Charlie walks out of the lounge, out into the bar, and behind the bar to the kitchen. Neither them nor Terrence are allowed to work with the alcohol, but they can work the restaurant portion.
"Hey Char" Terrence speaks up the second he sees Charlie enter the kitchen.
"Hey Terrence" Charlie flushes pink a little bit. "Ma sent me to come help get ready for the rush." Of course, there's a full kitchen staff, but Terrence always insists on helping make the desserts. Charlie loves to watch Terrence bake. He's good at it.
"I think everyone has it covered in here, we should probably get tables ready." Charlie nods in agreement, holding the door open for and following Terrance out of the kitchen.
The two teens get to work cleaning and setting up tables and bar tops before the clock strikes six. The rush normally starts after six.
"Charlie, Terrence, take a quick break before this place gets flooded. It's Friday night after all." Charlie's Ma suggests to the teens.
The two go to the lounge area on the other side of the kitchen. Terrence grabs the Connect Four box from under the coffee table and sets it up for the two of them.
Charlie makes their first move, and then watches as Terrence thinks thinks about his. The Spanish boy brushes back a lock of dark brown hair. Terrence has dark brown, chin and shoulder-length hair that frames his light brown, slightly angular face. His eyes are a fascinating hazel that Charlie just loves to get lost in. Man, is Charlie whipped. And they're not even dating.
"... turn" Charlie snaps out of his daze.
"What?"
"I said, 'your turn', doofus" Terrence laughs. Charlie laughs with him, dropping a chip in the column next to his first one.
The two play for a while before the rush begins and the two are swamped between waiting and manning the cash register. Occasionally, Terrence would leave Charlie alone so that he could make a dessert. When that happened, someone else would out and help Charlie.
An hour and a half later, at 7:45, Terrence's shift is over.
"See ya tomorrow at school, Char" Terrence says, almost sadly. Charlie just passes it off as Terrence being tired from 3 hours and 45 minutes of work.
"See ya" Charlie smiles as Terrence leaves, walking home like he does every day after work.
"Upstairs with you" Ma says to Charlie. "It's the end of your shift as well, hon. Besides, you know how I feel about you being down here after eight."
"I know, I know" Charlie says. "You don't want me around the drunks that come out after eight. I'm going, I'm going" they say with a find smile.
Charlie goes into the worker's lounge and up the stairs. To the left of them is the family room with a TV and an L-shaped couch. Against the wall opposite of the TV, behind the couch there's a couple bookshelves built into the wall. Then there's a wall with a large opening into the kitchen. A Roman-style couch is pressed against the wall, giving whoever is on it easy access to the bookshelves.
In front of him is a door, leading up to the third floor. Nothing very important is up there, but Charlie and their Ma use it occasionally. Charlie likes to go up there and open all of the windows. The beams of light all end up at the same center point and so Charlie likes to stand/sit/lay in the center.
To their right are three doors. In the ever center is a brown door with a square window that has a scale-like pattern in the glass to prevent people from looking in. That's the half-bathroom. The door to the left of that is the door to Charlie's room. The door to the right is Charlie's Ma's room.
Charlie enters their room. It's large, but the bedrooms take up a little less than half of the floor so that's to be expected. On the right wall, there's the door to their closet. It's pretty wide and Charlie has all of their clothes in it, they don't own a dresser.
Their bed is in the center of the left wall. Just last year they were able to buy the bed that they wanted, with help from their Ma of course. It didn't have a headboard or any type of railings. The frame lifted the bed about a foot and a half off of the ground, so it had a little step that spanned the entire long side of the frame. It was the long sides that were pressed against the wall and open to the rest of the room.
Currently, they had a mismatch of black and creme and red bedspreads on their bed, the pillows and blankets all messed up. Charlie's pastel pink teddy bear could be seen poking out of the blankets as well.
About fifteen feet from the bed was the back wall. In the corner of the back wall and the right wall was Charlie's desk. It was wooden with a few drawers. A jar of writing utensils was on top of it, as were a few papers and folders. Their backpack leaned against one of the desk legs.
On the left wall there was a few rows of shelves filled with various trinkets and three academic awards. They also had two medals sitting on one of the shelves. On the very top shelf sat a worn blue teddy bear, a photo album, and journal. It's a shrine to the birth parents that Charlie doesn't remember.
On the back wall is the door to a bathroom with a shower/bath along with a toilet, sink, and a medicine cabinet. There's also a small closet with towels, swimsuits, and spare shampoos, conditioners, soap bars, and some makeup that Charlie bought a couple months ago. They like to mess around with makeup every once in a while.
Charlie changes into their pajamas and goes to bed. It's only eight o'clock but they'll stay up for another three hours on Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr before actually going to sleep.
