As the arrowhead swung round and round, everyone watched it with eyes eager to see the outcome; which ended up to be that it landed on Hannah Abbot, a small girl in Hufflepuff, who was in Harry Potter's year. She wen over to the black box, and slipped her hand in. When it came out again, a small slip of parchment was grasped in her hand.
"Umm Turquoise." She called out in a lightly nervous voice. Smugly, Ernie MacMillan stood up and bustled over to her, then they walked into the closet together.
*Hannah's POV*
I inwardly sighed in relief - Ernie was my best friend, and sort-of my crush; this would mean that I'd find out whether or not I truly had been "friendzoned"... It could go either way, yet I was determined for it to go my way for a change.
"Hey Ern, um- I-I was wondering whether we should uh u-use the time here valuably-" I stopped at his confused expression. Taking a deep breath, I said one sentence. One that could ruin our friendship forever. "I really like you as more than friends."
I took in his expression. This was it, I was never going to be friends with him again, was I? Oh Merlin, this is terrible, I should never have-
"Really?"
"Uh, yeah... Really." To my enormous relief, his face cracked into a huge grin. "What- what's going on? Ern?"
To my shock, embarrassment, and utmost pleasure, he leaned in and kissed me. Y'know in movies when the two main characters finally kiss, and they look so happy, like nothing could bring them down? That's me right now. It was sweet, and gentle, and when a lack of air overwhelmed me, I broke it off.
"So I take it you like me back then?" I said jokingly after a couple of minutes.
"Hannah, I've literally liked you for years - I thought you knew that already!" I shook my head.
"Nope, or I would've admitted my feelings too."
"You really are oblivious, d'you know that? Why else would I have invited you to the Yule Ball, for example?"
"Um, I don't know... I thought we were going as friends..." I felt stupid now.
"I kissed you there. Do friends do that?"
"I thought it was just an in-the-moment thing... I hoped it wasn't, but thought that you'd never like me back in a million years!" I felt really stupid now.
"Ha! Well, I guess we both know now... So, er, will you go out with me? Wait - I mean, will you be my girlfriend! Wait - I mean-"
"Ernie, I get what you mean, and yes, I will!"
"Good!"
We spent the next few minutes enjoying each other's company, until someone opened the door.
"Guys, seven minutes are up!" Lee Jordan called out. We walked out together, hand-in-hand, and blushing slightly as we both giggled.
"Ooooooooh, what happened in there?" Lavender Brown asked me, nudging me slightly and winking. This simply caused me to blush even more. "Did you guys finally get together? Gosh, we've been waiting for this forever!"
"Ye-yeah. We did." I thought back to the kiss, and could practically feel the heat that came of my Weasley-hair coloured cheeks.
"Alright guys, you know the rule - five pairs a night. And if I'm correct, that was our fifth pair! Sorry, but it be time to go!"
With that, everyone found their friends in the mass if bodies, and we walked back to their Common Room. I found Ernie, and we walked back, hand-in-hand. Some people "awwwed", whilst others - and I was not pleased about this one at all - others passed sickles, galleons and knuts to each other upon seeing that we were officially together. They placed bets on us?! Oh well, I guess it means that Ernie really does like me...
