Hello, My name is Lawliet. I am the detective L. This is the first story I have written, it will be about my case. My first official case under the name of L. Now, let's see... where to start? perhaps the day I left home, I was 17 turning 18, yes that is a good place.

Chapter 1: Wammy

Her hair was a dark red, she was dressed in a black ball gown her green eyes look at me making me blush. "Hello Kayoko." I say charmingly raising my hand toward her. "may I have this dance?"

She takes my hand and pulls me away towards the activity where we begin to dance.

"you've grown up a lot since We first met you, haven't you?" she says with a smirk.

"So have you, we are the same age after all." giving a sly smile.

We move in unison as the music flows around the room, I am in a suit and wearing a tie, the room covered in strawberry themed decor. Everyone here, my friends..no..my family, they are all here to say goodbye to their beloved Lawliet, their brother as he ventures into the world.

"I'm going to miss you L, we grew up together and I've never had a friend like you. I think I speak for everyone when I say this place won't be the same without you." As she speaks the music slows and my heart skips a beat, because she moves closer placing her hand on my cheek as she brings her lips to meet mine, the world around us stopping yet moving like lightning as our eyes close and hold.

That was the last time I ever saw K.

One month later, I sit in my usual strange position with my legs held to my chest and my feet at the edge of my chair. In front of me a tea, I count the exact 14 sugar cubes. I need the sugar, it is my way of coping I guess. For someone who holds all of the worlds worst pains, someone who knows the worst secrets and has to keep them locked away inside, you have to cope. So I eat sugary foods, my own little way of handling it, doesn't matter, my mind eats up the glucose, every thought starving for energy. I don't gain a pound.

maybe one day... one day I'll be able to let it out, let go of the feelings of regret and pain, and love that was old and lost. I look to the picture of Kayoko sitting on my desk, pausing for a second to admire her, then turn it face down on the desk.

There is a knock at the door, I press the button on my keyboard showing the camera view, I smile when i see who it is. I buzz him in and turn my chair to face him. "Hello." I say to the man in front of me, his face seeming middle age, he has a black mustache making him look slightly older, far older than me. he is wearing a suit, a trench coat, and a large brimmed hat. "you must be watari." I say slightly excited to have my own butler.

"Are you L?" he says almost suprised to see how young I am.

"That's me." I say. "nice to meet you. If you would like to begin, there is a letter in the mailbox, if you would bring it to me I would be very grateful."

"very well sir." he says and he go back outside to retreive it, as he does I take the opportunity to take a look at his suitcase, the print on the name is old and worn, the name being Quillsh Wammy, he is the butler I sent for, he is Watari.

My old friend.
