Chapter 4: The Game
Vissa woke up in the bedroom of L's new hotel suite. A doll wearing her clothes and a wig with white hair lying next to her. She gave a small gasp and fell out of the bed. L was sitting in the corner of the room facing away from her, staring at a computer screen. She looked down to what she was wearing. Black PJ's, from her suitcase. She stood and saw a plate of snacks on the bedside table. She grabbed a pocky stick and popped it in her mouth taking a chomp. The room was silent for a long time after, she watched L as he worked, he seemed to be hacking, but from across the room she couldn't tell what it was.
"Coil needed to think you were dead." L said quietly, not moving his eyes from the screen.
"why?" Vissa asked more confused than anything else.
"Because, if you were dead, that would mean that I was dead."
"Oh, well what are you doing now?"
"Winning the game." L said quietly almost under his breath.
Coil POV:
Eraldo sent one of his men to check the damage, his smile was evident, he had won, he had wished that this new detective had put up a bit more of a fight, but sadly he was just too stupid. Eraldo sat himself on the couch, a glass of wine in his hand, a beautiful girl sitting next to him in a tight dress. He switched on the large TV in the back of the room, it displayed two news reporters in a news room with the explosion replaying in the background. He watched as they said they believed it was a gas leak, as he had bribed them to do. "The explosion is being investigated at this time, the no one was hurt, no thanks to Eraldo Coil, the alleged culprit of this crime. Eraldo looked closely and the mood changed, his laugh stopped and he frowned, he looked closely at their mouths and they were no longer in sync with what was being said. "That's right Coil, no one was injured." The voice was now synthetic and the background was now a large L.
"What!" Eraldo screamed. "what's wrong baby?" the girl asked moving her hands around him.
"Get out!" he shouted throwing her off him.
Eraldo turned off the television kicking it into the wall. "God damnit!" he shouted punching it.
"Oh and that isn't all." The voice said now coming from the radio. Eraldo threw his hands to it attempting to crush it.
"Sending my sister after me was smart, but not smart enough." It now came from the phone.
Again Eraldo broke it his hands now bloodied.
"The simple fact of the matter is." The computer in the corner.
"You're too emotional." The radio on the desk.
Eraldo was now wielding a knife crushing every electronic in the room.
a knock was coming from the door, he ran to it swinging it open. "WHAT?" he shouted.
"Sir I have a telegram for you." Eraldo Grabbed the piece of paper and slammed the door, tearing open the envelope, opening up the letter.
"Hello Coil, I have a challenge for you... turn around."
Eraldo flung himself around, strewn across the wall, There sat L on his couch with a small smile, he waved as Coil noticed Vissa standing by the open window. Vissa opened fired on him dropping him to the ground. L walked up to Eraldo Coil, he kicked the knife away and knelt down next to him. "Oh... and Eraldo. I solved the case. I had it solved it the moment I got it. The murderer was you. You're the one who murdered those 13 girls, You lost the game, and now you disappear.
L walked away from the dying man, he sat back on the couch, his knees tucked to his chest and took a sip from his tea that was sitting next to him on the table.
Coil sputtered and took a last breath "Congratulations, you won. I won't deny that. But you got one thing wrong, I wasn't the murderer, but I know who is." Eraldo started laughing to himself, his laughter rang loud as it turned to a cackle. L turned away as Vissa shot a final shot, and the laughing stopped.
"If it wasn't him, who was it?" L asked himself.
"Of course it was him, he's insane." Vissa said pointing at the limp ody with her gun.
"No, Eraldo Coil would want his last words to be important, it wasnt him..."
L looked outwords toward the city, just as he looked a shockwave rang from the building in front of him, and fire erupted from the side. Their were now two holes in the side of the building.
"It looks like a 13." Vissa said.
"No." L said his eye's closed in the pain of memory. "Not a 13....it's a B"
