The luminescence of the moon reflected off the despondent alley like a thousand candles in the night. Mists of fog etched along the edges of the desolate buildings, not a single human in sight. Drips of water echoed throughout the vicinity, the only sign of life in a sea of darkness. The perfect place to convene.
A man cloaked in black moved swiftly along the shadows, his alertness apparent in his trepidatious eyes.
After a few minutes, he had finally arrived at a circular domain, a place secretly hidden in a small part of the alley from prying eyes. But he was not alone.
"At last we meet, milady. I have been anticipating your return for years now," the man said, bowing in respect to the silhouette of a woman.
The mysterious person then stepped out from the veil of darkness and he slightly gasped. Back in the days, she was known throughout the realms as the most beautiful woman; as contrast to that belief, her current appearance has been replaced with many shades of deformity, yet there was still a powerful aura that surrounded her all the same.
"Yes, I can see that, Morlington. You shall be well-rewarded once I rise to prominent power once again," a raspy voice responded, "As you can see, I'm not exactly in the best state right now, especially after centuries of exile. Every time my body started reforming, I get slightly weaker, which is exactly why I must succeed in this time span, and you shall help me."
"Yes, of course, my mistress. Anything."
"You have heard of the legendary necklace that appears once every five centuries, yes? Because of its magical properties, it would be the perfect way for me to replenish all the power that I have lost during that wretched battle with the Mesineux girl. But luckily for us, in about ten months' time, is the exact five hundred years' mark."
"But...there's this rumor that's been propagating about a child of Mesineux blood who is destined to be the savior of all humanity. Apparently, she is also blessed with the rare power that only you and Ms. Jenni Mesineux possessed," he whispered.
"What? That's impossible. That ability is incredibly rare, something only a person with the strongest level of portentia can ever acquire!"
The man gulped. He knew he should have kept his mouth shut. "We-well we don't know for sure yet milady, maybe it is a rumor after all."
The woman stared at him thoughtfully. "I see. Well, let's say it is true. If she is of age, then she must learn how to channel her powers in order to use it. Therefore, the girl would have to attend one of the most powerful schools that has ever existed in the Elucae world, in order to prepare."
"Yes, that is correct. Both of my children "currently attend Clarines High, the most distinguished preparatory school in Elucaen history; perhaps that would be the school?"
The mysterious woman clapped her hands in delight. "That's perfect. Your children shall be my spies, if that girl should choose to go there. Under no circumstances shall they genuinely befriend this girl, and must, no matter what, report back their findings and make her life as difficult as possible, do you understand? We must not let her powers advance any further," she said firmly, determination reflected in her dark eyes.
"Ye-yes, of course, I shall inform them of this right away. But what exactly are you going to do about the girl?" he inquired.
"Well, I guess I would have to obliterate her as well. Nothing, will get in the way of my success," the woman replied, her lips curled into a menacing smirk.
Her laugh then pierced the night like a thousand darts, its sound resonating the epitome of evil.
The mysterious voice had belonged to one of the strongest Elucaens to have ever graced this earth, none other than Mortema herself.
